It's true. Athletes are just people at the end of the day. Some people are satisfied with a middle of the road existence and that's their right.

And it's their right to get shytted on a daily basis, abused on social media, etc. They can be a punk, just don't complain when you get clowned 24/7 and the shyt doesn't seem so comfortable.

Nothing off base about what he’s saying…

…Only 450 out of 8 billion people on planet Earth will even occupy an NBA roster spot at any given time to begin with. Of that 450, only 150 will start in any games. The percentages get even smaller when you break down how many of these guys will be All-Stars, Hall of Famers, or champions over the course of their careers…even if they ALL wanted these things and worked for them.

This is before we get down to how many of these guys are wired and talented beyond measure for those pursuits. It’s a reason you can count the Brons, KDs, Giannises, Stephs, & Kawhis on one or 2 hands…meanwhile the majority is made up of WAY more regular guys who are just happy to have even made it to league.

Plus add the fact the league deeper than ever but at the same time we act like it’s a one man show. The NBA saw the reaction to Lebron leaving Cleveland and came up with stupid shyt like the Supermax.

Ben Simmons isn’t bad overall he’s one of the best defenders in the league but his unwillingness to shoot is the problem but the media acting like he’s the worse player in the league is bad especially when Dame and CJ about to make 100 million a season between the two of them when they not as good as Ben.

The way we think about the league is outdated especially when you do the math in your head like Jordan was averaging 30 when teams were scoring in the 90’s today games are in the 100’s before the fourth and guys aren’t really averaging 30 maybe 25 at the average

Ben is a 16 pts, 8 rebounds, 8 assists guy for his career.

Nah people worrying about "Greatness" in trivial shyt like sports and not the things that really matter is the reason for the world being in the shape it's in now :francis:

that's what I'm in part getting at, when you don't want the best from yourself, it's kind of hard to ask for it from others...soon enough the acceptance of mediocrity leads to apathy and ultimately people aren't held accountable for not accomplishing tasks or meeting expectations.

Yeah and nothing wrong with that.

No difference than the cat at work who doesn’t want to be in management just wants to check in at 9 and bounce at 5

I pretty much said the same thing in a topic here a couple weeks ago. People assume all athletes want to be the best. In reality they just like us, some people just doing it for the check.

It is hard for me to comprehend not wanting to be great when you’re at the pro level and the competition is so fierce that you could be out of the league before you know it.

Complacency is more understandable at a routine job. Not at the highest levels of athletics.

I am not saying complacency doesn’t exist there. But fukkin hell…talk about leaving a lot on the table.

Not really. Or perhaps in a different way/later stage. Assuming you’re comparing them to Simmons specifically as opposed to simply being a more general statement.
Shaq and Barkley are at a higher talent level than Simmons, but neither pushed themselves to be greater, outside of their MVP runs. Pippen called Barkley a fat ass because he knew what maximizing himself was like. And we saw Kobe shyt on Shaq.
