That's with every job. Not everyone has goals of going into upper management. Some people just want to do their job and go home

It is hard for me to comprehend not wanting to be great when you’re at the pro level and the competition is so fierce that you could be out of the league before you know it.

Complacency is more understandable at a routine job. Not at the highest levels of athletics.

I am not saying complacency doesn’t exist there. But fukkin hell…talk about leaving a lot on the table.

I totally understand where you're coming from, while I'm not 6 figures Coli breh, I make $80k plus with my main priority checking golf courses and being a financial manager for top 15 parks department, love the work but I ain't dying on this hill/career..

My point in all that is I constantly have people tell me that they would kill for my job, this is the end goal in the golf community but it will never be enough for myself, going back to school for my graduate degree cause Im honestly on Ben Simmons shyt, I GET PAID TO DO WHAT I ALREADY DO NOT WHAT I COULD DO (honestly in NBA that is different).....

What's funny is that Shaq wasn't the type who wanted to be a great player. Hence him and Kobe falling out. He was just naturally gifted and big as fukk. Kobe was no more naturally gifted or had any better size than other cats in the league. He just worked his ass off, and wanted to be great. So he rose to the top. I can imagine it bothered Kobe to see Shaq just cruise because his god given gifts.

Barkley was a drunk and a gambler who gave up at the end of his career. Again, higher talent level than Simmons so he had a better career and wanted the ball more than Simmons, but he had another level that we never saw much.

Shaq after 2000 didn’t work as hard to improve.

No one is denying parting and playing ball, you can do both. Hell, the only one that didnt doo both was Kobe. MJ partied harder than all of them. Magic's festivities are legendary,

Shaq playing at a much lower weight would’ve taken a lot of wear and tear off his knees and back. Shaq himself had admitted to partying and bullshytting during the off-season and that he’d play himself into shape during the season.

Some of y’all are looking at Shaq and Barkley’s career with nostalgia glasses. Even in real time they were being criticized on not taking the game serious enough. It wasn’t a coincidence that Barkley’s best year was after playing on the Dream Team which kept him in shape during the off-season. Hell with Barkley there were lots of stories of him riding an exercise bike eating donuts while others practiced.

They didn't start criticizing Shaq until AFTER he won his 3rd. That's when he literally said, "Eff them, I do what I want." He had already earned his stripes then. He added more fineness post moves in LA, not Orlando. And he only had 2 seasons coming in out of shape, after the beef was at its peak. Then he trimmed down for MIA.

Barkley was a better player in Philly. Moses and Doc got on him as a rookie and he got in shape, and tok over from there. The problem he had here was that he kept gettin into ish in the streets, but the city never saw him as lazy. He was fat....there were no "nutritionists." There's a difference

MJ and Magic put in the work during the summers. There was never any stories about them coming into the season out of shape. MJ had the GOAT genetics too because he didn’t need to sleep.

Barkley wasn’t that and Shaq coasted.

The other thing with Barkley is he put zero effort on defense and was criticized for that, even in his prime years.

Those Heat teams were decent. James Posey, Mourning, Antoine Walker

Imagine a slimmed down older Shaq when he was on those Suns teams
By the time he was on the suns, he was already like 35 or 36

His athleticism at that size - even if he slimmes down - wouldn't be the same.

Yeah and nothing wrong with that.

No difference than the cat at work who doesn’t want to be in management just wants to check in at 9 and bounce at 5

Yeah that's true, BUT if you make to the top 0.001 of something, you should want to be great as you can be. That office job might be nice, but also fairly common.

I'm not saying Ben Simmons has to become Kobe or Mike, but he should be driven enough to hit free-throws.

I think embiid wants to win and be great. If Bun Simmons does not want to just wants to make money least he could do is get his bum ass to some trash team

This is true, and it's the same in all walks of life. My homie has that MJ mentality of always putting forth his best effort, and he surpassed me because of it.

I got to my ship as an E-4 when he was an E-3. 12 months later, and I'm still an E-4, yet he's an E-5. Cuz is literally one of my supervisors:mjlol:.

What's funny is that he'd tell you himself that he's not the smartest, or the most clever, or even the most friendly guy, but his work ethic is so much higher than everyone else's, that you can't help but to promote him. He always gets the job done, and he does it quickly and efficiently.

Usually, it'd take an E-1 3-4 years to make E-5, but cuz got that shyt in 1½ years.

Having a high work ethic can take an average guy to some great places.
