I lived in and around Chicago from 1994 - 1998. I almost exclusively ate Deep Dish; mostly Giordanos. I don't miss the pizza as much as this small Mexican chain called El Famous Burrito.

the national narrative that that is the pizza preference up here is wild
I wasn't disputing that fact. I noticed it too. I just love Deep dish and ate it every chance I got when I was there. I personally think the thin-crust Chicago pizza cut into squares is trash. The crust is rarely made crispy enough and end up mimicking the texture of the pizza box, especially the next day.no native eats deep dish exclusively. we actually eat it quite sparingly.
