eazy wasnt no studio gangsta because he wasnt a rapper originally nor was he trying to be one at first but ice cube was a school boy,dre & yella was from world class wrecking crew so you can say those 3 are studio gangstas, (idk if ren was a real street nikka or not)
Studio gangstas is an overrated term. It would fit if it is about people who never experienced the streets themselves whatsoever. Lived in a safe upper-classed neighborhood yet rapped about the hood as if they were from there. But all of them were from Compton aside from Cube that was just nearby in South Central during the PEAK of the crack epidemic and gang violence. No matter WHAT a nikka had to deal with that hood life in one way or another just to even survive at that time in the 80's. shyt, even while Kendrick was growing up, he had to do some things just to make it and he's no less "hardcore" as Cube was. They were some real nikkaz that would of put a foot in people asses if you would of call them fake. All of them were from those streets. Ain't none of them were from Beverley Hills. People ought to know how Compton was back then, just because someone like Dre and Yella avoided trying to slang dope or gang bang, or because Cube had parents that wanted him to get a proper education just to get OUT the hood doesn't mean they didn't do what they had to do just to survive the terrorist zone that they existed in. That's why they rapped about that shyt, because it is what they know, seen and experienced.
By that logic, people could easily say PUBLIC ENEMY were some fake studio revolutionaries, just because they were born and raised in a mostly white suburban area of Long Island. But because they were raised under the time where the Black Panther and Black Power movement was at its height, that's was made them to rap about that shyt.
But again, studio gangstas is an overrated term, by that logic, practically 95% of every rapper in the HISTORY of hip hop are studio rappers due to them rapping about the hood and the streets and violence in first person despite never murdering anyone or didn't sell dope or exaggerate stories of the ghetto.
