Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (April 24, 2025)

Man, they totally nailed the dialogue / writing / face animations / acting / voice acting / music and all that. the emotions feel real.

Alright this is definitely one of the best JRPGs of all time. I’m astonished to see this random ass team pull this off. I didn’t even hear of this game until a few months ago.

They really made a JRPG through and through, and i really appreciate that. From the music, to the writing, to the ending even, it took a lot of cues from Final Fantasy and other JRPGs. As melancholic as the game was, they still were able to fit in goofy things and fun humor that didnt feel out of place. The gestral town was my favorite part of the game, and Monaco and Esquie were probably my favorite characters. I loved the whole party and more than the turn based system, THAT is what I miss most about old FF. Just exploring the world and coming across new party members with new skill sets. Good times.

Music is up there with any game I’ve played. The battle system is genius because they took the parry mechanic, which is probably the most satisfying combat mechanic in gaming currently, and made a whole turn based system out of it, also with unique characters to build. I’d say this combat is right there with Rebirth in all time best JRPG combat. Probably better.. Addicting to hunt enemies out.

Overall the story was just okay to me, I found myself much more enthralled with the rest of the experience. But the way the story was told was masterclass level in gaming. Voice acting, pacing, the ending itself was incredible.

And lastly, even though this was a pure JRPG experience, the French tone to it all just made it feel unique and endearing in a way I haven’t experienced before.

It’s probably a 10/10.. it’s better than rebirth/metaphor/LAD. I feel like i’m behind in saying this, but yeah, all time classic. Must play.

Its a parry. Its honestly more forgiving than regular parries. Don't push the button as soon as it turns grey. Wait till the attack gets a bit closer.

How long is this game supposed to be? I'm still on South of Midnight. And I need to get back to Avowed before I forget how to play or what I'm doing. I don't want to add it to the log. But if this game is a little shorter than usual (which I believe its supposed to be?) Then I'll see what it do

The whole painter and writer thing and that whole reveal gives me huge Assassin/Templar vibes. Hopefully shyt doesn't end up like this but these are ex Ubi devs

But wow i’m extremely impressed.

Hits highs in production + Gameplay that very few games do IMO.

I knew i would like the game based on previews and stuff but im honestly blown away by how good this actually is.

Already 2 hours in. Level 5 almost 6 and went into a cave to fight a chromatic boss and got one shotted. Fell the fukk back. I did kill this dumb ass Mime boss only to get an outfit
