I voted for the 1st 3 Albums.
Whut! Thee Album was a gamechanger in a lot of ways, maybe more so than Naughty By Natures 1st album and this is coming from someone who is related to a member. When Whut dropped it was a dropkick to the average hip-hop listener because Red had a style unlike any mainstream rapper at that point. Remember 92 was what some call the 'rappity-rap' era where complex flows were all the rage even if the rapper really wasn't saying anything of substance. Also Redman and Eric Sermon's production was different from the heavy jazz sampling of the era. Red earned the best rapper of 92 award, and the album still bangs today.
Dare is a Darkside is the 'weakest' of the three classics, imo. Red was apparently lit up on angel dust and it shows. This is one of the grimiest albums I've ever heard of any genre. Redman's flow was just so twisted and he was dropping metaphors that were mind bending, like 'I switch styles faster than Bruce Lee riding a Fuji in a movie'. He really captured the mood of living in Newark, NJ in the mid 90's and he showed it for the world to see. I also appreciate the musical risks he took in doing this album and complete changing the tone, even though it still had that P-Funk sound, it was heavily dipped in acid. Just listen to Green Island, Rock On and Bobyahedtothis. But I think time has elevated the album in people's eyes.
Muddy Waters I think is the best of the three albums. Redman was at his peak as a songwriter and I think this album combines the best qualities of his first 2 albums. Some people say it's a little on the commercial side, but he is one of the few rappers who can toe the line of underground and commercial with out sacrificing what makes him dope. He's also just laugh out loud funny as his skits (at least the first few times) are hilarious. This album is the best commercial album made by a New Jersey artist rivaled by Nineteen Naughty Three and arguably The Score.
Doc's the name has some of Redman's best songs (I'll be That, Let the Monkey Out and Da Goodness) but it had the weakest Supaman Lova song and a few tracks were just lacking that funky grime.
Malpractice is, imo better than Docs the name, there are less amazing songs but outside of a track or two but it flows better as a complete album. The best track by far J.U.M.P it's a shame it's so short. I also liked Real n1ggas with Scarface.
