LOL most artists in the music industry don't take the time to form "long-lasting, meaningful music" -

That's complete bullshyt. You really think the greatest artists don't put immense thought into their works on some "I want this to be meaningful" shyt?

Three 6 Mafia never made any bones about saying their music is supposed to be "meaningful" or any of that chit.
That's part of the charm.

I agree. So then we're on the same page. They have no classics.
Classics are meaningful bodies of work with immense replay value and transcend generations.

There's nothing wrong with making disposable "here today, gone tomorrow" type shyt, but let's not get it twisted about what it is. Any artist we consider great in hip hop that has made a classic was trying to make meaningful music, whether emotionally or intellectually. You can pull this off by accident, but it's fukking rare.

Supreme Clientele is a highly-meaningful album. It's not on some 'save the world shyt'. Ghost spits gibberish the entire way. But it's meaningful in the sense that Supreme Clientele is about celebrating life. Having fun, being passionate, being colorful, etc. That meaning is embedded in every melody and every vocal of that album.

You're the desperate one here trying to be contradictory...you'll admit Three 6 Mafia is influential and had good ideas,
but won't admit enough other people think so to where they might say their work is classic. You're wasting your own time.

considering you're the one that initiated this convo, I'm gonna say :umad:

Das EFX were influential and had good ideas. But they have no classic albums. shyt... Sir Mix-A-Lot has an influential track and no classic albums. It's really not that hard to understand. Unless of course you don't know what you're talking about.

it's a good album, way better than the rest of the discog
I don't really fukk with this lofi memphis horrorcore like that too much but maybe if I did I'd wanna go deeper to crime rate skyhigh or on the run or king of the playaz ball or summin. u should check those so it ain't a cold judge

I didn't say "the greatest artists don't put immense thought into the works", now did I?

I said "most artists in the music industry don't take the time to create 'long-lasting, meaningful music'.

Those statements are not the same.

Nope.

Classics are meaningful bodies of work with immense replay value and transcend generations.

That's your opinion, which is fair...

...however, look at the first post in these threads. That's the definition we're being asked to work with, not yours.

So you do you think it's possible for an artist to have a "classic" track?

For fux sake :snoop:

it's quite ROFL how basic your responses are. You don't elaborate. Just waste time talking about everything but 3 6 and arguing minutia of "I didn't say this exact word"

 Gotta go, breh.

Remember tho: No classics :umad:

3 6's monopoly is probably justified (at least dj paul n juicy j) but also a bit of a blinker imo.

What could I do besides laugh at what you said?

You dreamed up a concept for what Supreme Clientele was about. That is hilarious.

Tumblr is a blogging platform that essentially does away with longform writing and depths and essentially allows users to curate some hyper shallow aesthetic. A lot of the users tend to fetishise death/ suicide, depression, heavy self destructive drug use, narcissism, urban deprivation etc. Essentially its a culture vulturing enablizer. ASAP and raider clan etc were big hits on tumblr and that seems to have sent the blog mafia scurrying back to dig up and pedestal-ize their most obvious influences in a bid to secure cultural cache. The end result essentially (imo) is 3 6 got a lot wider exposure than even the oscars gave em and mystic stylez became the go to memphis release for taste diversifiers who wanna be throwing scorn at EC or WC centric.

Or summin.

I don't want to take anything away from em. They're excellent and unprecedentedly influential for essentially a cult favourite.
:dwillhuh:
So they are big with hipsters is what you are saying?
That's been going on since Diplo and Hollertronix.
When did hip hop fans start giving them that look? :jbhmm:

The hipster of yesterday is today's hip hop fan. All the indie blogs co-opted the culture.

Nah - hipsters are by definition fly by night and have no real interest in the music outside of "irony". Hipster love for Three six is the perfect example of this.

So does anyone have an argument that Three Six has a classic album that doesn't involve hipsters?

That not necessarily what I meant. I meant ppl that would have been into that indie rock hipster ish if they'd come up 5-10 yrs previous are now identifying and engaging as hip hop fans. I think that's why there is such a disconnect in outlook now n then
