Thats because you spend so much money on prostitutes you fukking moron
I don't even do that anymore.

Also, "living like a pauper" is all relative. I go on several trips a year, contribute towards my retirement, paid off half my loans in two years and have around $30k in the bank. What I mean is that I live pretty fukking middle class for someone with no kids of a wife who would be living like a king anywhere else not named LA or San Francisco.

I could be owning a substantial amount of property elsewhere, whereas in New York City, you truly get what you pay for. More affordable areas will be further away from Manhattan and that just adds to commuting time. When you work as many hours in a high stress job as I do, you place a premium on sleep. Elsewhere in the country, people don't have to make this kind of a choice.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
As someone born and raised and currently living in NYC. the shyt is NOT worth it. Even if you rich. U don't get what u put into it. At all. Not even really all that nice either. Even the rich areas. And for the record yes u can get by. Most of the time if u don't have a great job u need a roommate. It cost more to make a decent living. And the shyt u get for what u pay doesn't match up. Especially when u look at the type of shyt u get for the price in other states.

This. There's a reason why investment bankers making millions still work.

Why?

1. Taxes are a bytch and NYC is the only city I know of that levies its *own* personal income tax.

2. Housing. All you dudes are talking about moving to the outer boroughs / Jersey but you are failing to account for the inconvenience. People who work long hours put a high premium in time being saved. Also, if you move out of the city, you need a car + insurance, the latter of which is incredibly expensive within the tristate area versus anywhere else in the country except maybe Miami, LA and SF.

3. If you have a family, good luck with sending your kids to public school. Unless your kid is smart enough to get into Stuy or one of the top magnets, sending them to a public school is pretty much a guarantee that your kid will get a sub par education. A good private school will cost you about $20-45k per kid.

This doesn't even go into everyday living expenses like food, which is also inflated compared to everywhere else because commercial rent is too damn high and the grocer needs to make up for this someway.

As other posters have said, a good deal in NYC just means you're getting raped less.

QUEENS NY
think you'll still be alive in 3 years brehs[/QUO
oh look, another "NYC is expensive thread" where New Yorkers come in and *juelz santana gif* themselves, trying to justify the outrageous cost of living. :russell:

b-b-b-b-b-b-but i can get a slice of pizza at 3am, can your city do that? :usure:

:russell:
No we justify it by stating the fact incomes and career opportunities are greater in the north east and west coast compared to the rest of the country. Now if your have a career getting by on the balls of your ass and that job can easily be had elsewhere, then maybe you should go elsewhere

I'm only able to afford to travel because i meticulously check for good deals every day and use credit card points. I traveled to Asia last spring for $300 roundtrip. I'm going to Europe next March for the same amount. This is as much as people spend on airfare going to Chicago or Miami.

I am seriously considering this or maybe going back to school and focusing on the Chicago market.

Key thing though is that I'm still only in my 20s and my salary can double if I stick with my role for a couple of years. It's just mad stressful and I've realized I want an easier life.
