I've watched CrossFit and other similar competitions. It's a good way to get injured. Doing snatches with heavy weight. Think about Olympic weight lifting, you go for your best one-rep max, if you don't make it, you throw the weight down. Crossfit, you are doing multiple snatches.

Oh and this? Why put all that stress on one your neck? I don't know, because you want to damage cartilage?

This is what I was saying above. I've watched all the crossfit games (they're on netflix and espn on demand and maybe even youtube) and they are a travesty.

Fun to watch but :francis:

As you said above, in Olympic lifs, 1 rep and done.

AND IF YOU CANNOT GET IT YOU BAIL OUT OF THE FUKKING LIFT

Crossfitters never bail properly. Its not ingrained int the crossfit culture.
They are doing high reps on high load and just trying to see which will break first, their body or their will.

There's this one clip of Thosdotter doing a dead lift that looks like she's giving birth. And instead of bailing she keeps trying for about a good 15 seconds.

Breh... if your deadlift takes 15 seconds... you are doing too much weight:francis:

Above the fray.
There is science behind Cross fit, but it IS NOT for everyone, and the high rate of injury proves that.

If you like Oly lifts, just get an Oly lift training coach and call it a day.

High rate of injury suggests that it's not safe.
Guy who created crossfit owns the name, the certification process for trainers, and EVERYTHING.

And yet people working out of certified gyms with cert. trainers get injured at an alarming rate.

Good bye Coli(2014-2020)
You gonna tear your shyt up doing any forms of compound movements in a rushed manner when the focus is not on form & you are attempting to complete everything while being energy depleted:hubie:
fukked up my knee doing this shyt in college. Can no longer easily do kipups(the thing Shawn Michaels and martial artists do).

Most crossfit ideologies are the antithesis of what you should be doing in excersise from a scientific standpoint.
The only reason why people get cut doing it, is because they brute force it. Not because it is a good program.

Many of their excersizes don't make any sense. I'll point out a few.

3x Power Clean then jumping over the bar 10 times, repeat 10x
BurpMid-sddfkj7skjh.JPG

This is stupid because you are doing a heavy, coordinated lift, and then trying to fit cardio in bewteen.
The problem is you aren't truly focused on the bulk side because you are throwing random cardio in, and you aren't doing enough cardio for it to be consider a cardio workout.

The end result is that you tire yourself out anaerobically, and your lift form suffers. But you don't truly tire yourself enough for it to be considered good cardio.

Here's another one,
Kipping Pullups
giphy.gif

You use the momentum to kill the actual work of the back and biceps.
You rarely ever reach the appropriate pull-up height because you're afraid of smashing your teeth into the bar
You use your legs to ease the work of the muscles that you are actually trying to work and end up only working your forearms
You look like a damn fool

Take all that passion and drive and apply it to real scientific workouts and they would be amazing.

But these people seem to respond better to dumbshyt :mjlol:

I mean I didn't even mention the infamous "Crossfit Deadlifts"

HIIT>>>

is HIIT the same as CrossFit? :patrice:
Nah

HIIT = High Intensity Interval Training

Basically it's doing cardio and calisthenics REALLY FAST...then really slow...then REALLY FAST...then really slow, in 1 minute to 1:30 second intervals

Burns calories like a MOTHERfukkER...BUT...you should only be doing it maybe 3 out of 7 days in a week. That shyt will fukk your joints up and cause early arthritis in places you will need later on in life.

HIIT is definitely great though. If you do HIIT 3 out of 7 days for a month or two, and you get adequate rest, AND don't eat like shyt, AND hydrate properly, I guarantee you'll start to see noticeable results.

Just remember at some points to do some kind of resistance training otherwise you might lose some muscle. Set up a schedule where you have one or two rest days and the rest is a mix of:

Straight Cardio
HIIT
Weights

Guarantee you will see results.

Crossfit seems like people trying to take a shortcut to fitness. shyt seems dangerous. Watching those overhead lifts and them crazy ass pullups and shyt. :picard: Most people would fine enough just joggin/running and doing regular lifting. Crossfit seems like it took off because it fit the yuppie/hipster instagram type of lifestyle. :hhh:

you can do low impact HIIT on bikes and rowers, no need to stress your joints with sprints/jumps/burpees

crossfit took off because bootcamp/specialty/independent fitness took off. People do get good results from crossfit, even at the expense of long-term health, so of course folks flock to it seeing it as THE way to get fit when in reality you could get the same results with the age old cardio/strength training/proper nutrition regimens that have been around for forever.

The Truth
what's the coli's thoughts on yoga? :jbhmm:

wanna get into it soon but if y'all say it's hot garbage soaked in bleach well I guess that's what it is :ohhh:
Yoga is by far the hardest shyt I've ecer done

Ive done insanity, p90x, etc.

Ran miles and miles in the military, squatted 405x10 regularly, benched 225x20 regularly, etc.

And Yoga is by far the hardest thing I've done. I think its great for overall flexibility and functionality. Like if you just lift and do hot yoga you will look better than the average crossfit idiot

bht whoever said boxing, i agree. It was really my only cardio for awhile. Bike riding or running is boring.

As @YouMadd? already stated-

It’s not for everyone.
Not all boxes are created equally.
Not all coaches are created equally.
Not all programs are created equally.

Unfortunately the plethora of poorly run gyms (some not even affiliates) owned and run by under qualified coaches who don’t understand proper programming give crossfit a bad name.

Like most people in this thread I used to shyt on it and laugh at all the YouTube videos as I went about my powerlifting/bodybuilding/cardio routines at a big box gym so I get it.

I’m about a year and change in and I’ve never felt better from an overall physical fitness standpoint so that’s the most important thing to me.

PS- that “40 crossfit fails” vid someone posted a few posts above me is comedy. But more than half those fails don’t take place in a crossfit gym, a bunch are actually specifically oly lifters, a few are in individuals in big box gyms, and even a few are saves. Ugly saves but saves nonetheless.
