I give you consistency. Kendrick has had one of the most consistent outputs his first 4 albums than most artists in the game.
But when you say classic level material what are we saying here? I think gkmc will be classic for my era, but will any of his albums be as monumental as The Blueprint?
We talking an album that nikkas can drop quotes from easily. Packed with street anthems, one of the most legendary guest feature, one of the most reversed diss records in hip hop history, and GOAT level production. And it is arguably not even Jay's best album.
Most people usually give that nod to Reasonable Doubt, which is a totally different listening experience.
That's not even taking into account The Black Album, American Gangster, and real solid street albums with classics like Vol 1, Vol 3, Dynasty. Breh, the GODLY FEATURES Hov has and continues to stack, which is a very weak spot for Kendrick.
I wrap this up to say Jay could drop another Kingdom Come tier album and Kendrick can continue his streak... Jay's catalog and contributions will still be waaaaaaaaay too deep for Kendrick.![]()
Well I don't know which of Kendrick's albums exactly will reach classic status but GKMC is already in discussion and TPAB too. All his albums have vast critical and commercial success (altho you gotta take the critical acclaim with a pinch of salt nowadays).
And idk whether any will be as monumental as The Blueprint so I do agree at least for now, Jay's highs are higher. But that best Jay album argument between RD, TBP and even TBA is also now happening to Kendrick. It's a testament to him releasing great quality of music.
Honestly as I alluded to before, it depends what you value when you determine who's GOAT. If consistency is a determining factor, then you'll value Ghostface, Scarface and Kendrick (up till now) over the likes of Jay and Nas. And Kendrick actually is on a higher notoriety level than Ghost or Scarface so the pressure on him to live up to expectations is greater.
We'll see how it pans out not only for future releases by Kendrick, but also see how time treats his already released albums i.e. what will go down as classic.
