I think some of these people are mixing up colorism with featurism.

I'm sure fine dark skinned women like Kenya more or Iman never got rejected for "being too dark".
Also women perpetuate a lot of colorist stereotypes/fetishes as well.

Light skin men are called soft, but if they got light eyes and wavy hair they women will want to have their baby.
Dark skin bros are viewed as strong and super masculine (apparently darker skin gives you super strength) and have that thug sex appeal.

Light skin women want dark bros because some have self-esteem issues about "not being black enough".
Dark skin women may have been teased as kids (by silly kids who don't have knowledge of self making dumb jokes about dark skin), getting with a lighter skinned guy feels like an accomplishment and is validation of their desirability.
Pretty much the same for Black males. We see it all the time.

As far as medium brown negroes...

nobody gives a fukk about us.

everything you described is colorism. you describe systemic exceptions for men, but none for dark women regardless of features

also, iman and kenya more are average shade

Y'all ain't get compared to Flavor Flav in Junior/High School like I did.....but, since I'm male, it doesn't matter.

:snoop:

Glad this shyt died in the 80's. Anyone talking about it now is full of shyt and/or just ugly.

It didn't. I was getting clowned right up until the mid 2000s when I was in high school. Thought was just my age group finally being mature until I heard my white teachers gushing over 3stacks and Wayne. When Drake came out, alot of girls my age, 17ish, were clownin his skin color. Thats around when I first started hearing non-hood rats say "stop acting lightskinned".

Something changed around 2010, im not sure what but the world flipped. Suburbanized latinas started openly fukking dark skinned dudes...nikkas started wearing their naps to job interviews and still got callbacks... My piss skinned cousin told me he wish he had my skin tone. Theres a shyt ton of "smash or pass" vids on youtube where these kids rejected, to their face, for being lightskinned....but then I remember the "you so black you purple jokes going up.":manny: Im glad that shyt didnt fukk me up as a child

Then it must be generational because we dropped all that nonsense once we got outta school and became adults .....or so I thought. Only 'hood cats and chicken heads were still on that dark/light thing seriously.

That's the burden we carry as men :manny:

As long as we're the bigger, taller, stronger sex.... people will naturally downplay any pain we experience. Because they assume it doesn't hurt, and that it's only us who inflict pain.

:mjcry:
Honestly I'd say as black men we might have to eat that shyt and do our utmost to uplift sisters, this should be beneath us as men. I'm team caramel :jawalrus:so maybe my thinking is different as colorism within the community hasnt really affected me.

I said it before that colorism is only a problem when black women are the victims. How many dark skinned black men heard the women in their family lusting after the men in the Debarge family because they were light skinned? There are plenty of black men out there with similar stories, but they'll get shutdown just like this brotha did.

Everyone in my immediate family is dark skinned, with my mom and myself being the darkest.

Ive heard all the jokes growing up. Luckily, that shyt ain’t really affect me like that. Pops used to stay saying that “blacker the berry, sweeter the juice” line in the house. Never been into white women like that, but it was white girls back when I was in high school that used to gush over my skin complexion.
