These new kids aren't rapping like that breh its over for that.
Today's rapper is more worried about melodies, one liners/quotables, vibes, ad libs, flows, hooks, production. Some of these kids aren't bad for bar for bar but it isn't the main focus of the music. What is traditionally considered rapping at a high level isn't popular. When Drake, J. Cole, Kendrick become flabby I don't know who is going to take over as the mainstream "spitters".
The most popular young rappers among the youth in NY are guys like A-Boogie, Lil TJay, Lil Tecca, J.I., T.J. Porter, Jay Critch, Jay Gwuapo and the guys coming out the Brooklyn drill scene like 22G'z, Pop Smoke, Fivio Foreign, Sheff G, Sleep Hallow, Jay Dee, Nas Blicky, etc.
A rapper like Dave East is one of the last of the Mohicans. You got others like Don Q, Young Zay, Neek Bucks, Nino Man, Envy Caine who don't get as much love.
Even when you go to Philly outside of Meek, the biggest rappers are Lil Uzi and PnB Rock. Even Meek has had to adjust his songmaking. Then you got guys like Kur who primarily raps and makes classic Philly soul pain music who is relegated to the street lane.
