It used to be my favorite, but the older I got, the more I gravitated towards Buhloone Mind State, De La is dead, and 3 feet high. Buhloone Mind State became the one I hold dearest.

I wasn’t old enough to appreciate those albums when they came out, I just loved the singles, a few album cuts, and their features were always amazing. I didn’t really dive into their first three albums until I was a teenager.

They went on to make great albums after the Paul split, but his absence is noticeable on stakes is high and beyond. The rhymes were always good, but they got more serious and something I can’t describe was missing. The Grind Date and Cabin in The Sky kind of recapture that older feeling though.

I think it holds up and aged a little better than De La Soul is Dead, but I go back and forth between those two

The world would start healing a little more if we could get new age versions of Native Tongues / Soulquarians now that a lot of these people are indy.
