Every time I listen it confirms this is AOTY. Clipse and Freddie had my interest before nah, they can't match this one. I don't even think it's close. It's not only the best produced album but lyrically it's saying something those other albums don't.

Pos is lyricist of the year. He said something profound in every verse. There's nothing superficial. He's not just rapping to rap. The words have purpose. The songs have meaning. This how rappers should age and show growth in their content without losing skill. Everybody can't replicate that because they're used to just giving people more of the same. De La has always been about showing their maturity from album to album.

I'm just happy they're not done. Hopefully they didn't have Dave on this one heavy because they're saving verses for later use.

A Native Tongues album would be incredible!

With no Phife or Dave it ain't Native Tongues. It's too late for a proper crew album and most of members haven't been active in music for a long time.

I would like to see a De La and Tip album though. He can handle the production and rap along Pos.

I’m still trying to take it in all in before I cement it but you’re absolutely right on all accounts.

I WILL say that I felt like on the Clipse album that they showed a measure of growth and maturity (especially Malice) that had been missing from their earlier work. I was never the biggest Clipse fan, but I fukked with Pusha’s solo albums to the point that I really started anticipating a Clipse reunion when they rapped on I Pray For You together. Their not as deep conceptually as Posdunous is on this album but what they DID present didn’t sound forced.

I’m still fighting with this or Mobb Deep being the Album of The Year but to be honest i’m fully expecting Nas to just swoop in and take it from everybody lol

Hard for me to cry 'cause I'm thankful
You right beside us with the tank full
Steering us through right and left turns
What we earned is another angel on our side
Or is it too hard for me to cry?
'Cause we hold too much in the lie
To ourselves for saying we are strong
And wrong in being selfish in wishing you had never died
It's like we lost a limb to gain a win
But Mase and I would rather be whole
I know you are providing us with warmth
But I'd rather you here what us fighting through the cold
Us arguing and mad at each other
Would be better than us to not have each other
But all I can do is bite my lip
And be blessed to have you steering the ship, from a different world

Second verse on Palm Of My Hands is crazy, especially the part about him telling his son to treat a woman better than he did his mother (moms taught me better and I still failed the test):

Listen, my name's not Charlie, but I'm a brown
Skinned kid just walking around, praising God's gift
And I never sniffed Charlie, but my lines are the lift
Meaning rhymes will ascend while I'm so off the cliff
Either make words that match or words that matter
And weaved with a ladder, climbing higher than your three-feet measure
We are more than a chest with a treasure
I'm do-or-dead like Stuyvesant-Bed
Yet I'm from the county of Nassau, Long Island track long
Live and let give life and when death is within sight
I hope to be surrounded by my seeds
Tell 'em to love one another
Tell my son to treat a woman better than I treated his mother
I was too undercover on the themes of excess
Seem to get it right when I choose to lean and express
Moms taught me better and I still failed the test
And if she's watching from higher heights
Her sight won't approve of certain moves in my manhood
But the hood man is damn good at showing us shortcuts
Left longevity, done with the fork stuff
Now fighting over quick fixes of fame I've expanded
And who will be the last man standing
With the vast amount of plans in the palm of his hand?

Grown man raps. Made me think it's crazy Andre3000 said he doesn't know what to rap about at the age he's at, when Pos is spitting real shyt like this 35+ years deep in the game.

Mobb is still a Frankenstein album to me. It was dope because it sounded like Mobb Deep but I'm never getting past them having to take a bunch of random P verses to put it together. What would P talk about if he was still here? I'm not high on posthumous albums for that reason. It's basically a bunch of remixes. Again they're not close to matching Pos lyrically.

Clipse did their thing but still not a better album.

While I'm hoping the Nas/Premier album delivers I don't see Nas having more to say than Pos did. Cabin In the Sky works so well because the subject matter is so personal. I doubt Nas is going to get that deep or be as vulnerable. Maybe Light Years will be great but I'm not seeing anyway Pos gets unseated lyrically.

After sitting with this for almost a week, I'm quite confident that this will be my fourth favorite De La project, after the Paul trilogy. I still think it's slightly too long, but there's nothing bad on here.

So far probably my third favorite album of the year, behind Alfredo II and Mobb. Ahead of Clipse.

This is an incredible year.

Yeah, 2025 has been a crazy good year for Hip Hop.

De La also has a Gangsta Grillz mixtape in the works. They were talking about it in 2023, not sure what happened to it.

EDIT:

This just made me think about the people saying they wish Dave was on here more. I'm sure they have a finite number of verses since he died and they're probably trying to figure out how and where to use them. Can't blow them all on one album.

Fred.
