Contracts back then were all the way fukked up smhAnd if i remember correctly, he was the highest paid guy on the team too

It can’t be Hakeem. He can’t be over Ewing he had Clyde for one of his rings and he played with Ralph Sampson earlier in his career. He also played on a “superteam” with Charles Barkley and Scottie Pippen.
Also, Hakeem in ‘94 may not have had a high volume secondary scorer. But what he did have was the best spacing/shooting of any team and the most clutch collection of role players in history.
Sam Cassell, Robert Horry, Mario Elie, Kenny Smith all had critical games or gamewinners. They was called Clutch City for a reason.
I agree that Worthy coming out of NC was the consensus top pick...but I don’t agree that they were anywhere near the same. I respect what Worthy did for the Lakers, but he was nowhere near the player Dominique proved to be. Perhaps it was because of the presence of Magic and Kareem that Worthy’s numbers pale in comparison, but having watched them both....I’m taking Wilkins all day.Fam, nobody on Earth was gonna draft Dominique over Worthy.
Besides, history has shown them to be essentially the same guy.
People really glaze over that sixers team having DPOY Mutumbo cause it doesn't fit into the Iverson vs. the world narrative.
Iverson is up there
Before this super team era. Dudes used to be solo stars on these shytty teams just withering away.
This is the answer. Because the knicks were so close to winning but NY didn’t get Pat a legit running matePatrick Ewing gotta be on here. Just off the top of my head ewing only played 3 players in his prime that made the all star game
starks- 94, one and only time
Oakley- 94, one and only time
Mark jackson- 89, one and only time
But Hakeem really did it stillCrazy to think about LBJ didn't have anyone averaging more than 12.6ppg when he made the Finals in 2007....but the worst in recent history has to be the '98 Jazz, who didn't have anyone other than Malone averaging more than 11.1.
Of course, neither of them pulled out the title in part because of those anemic freaking offenses.
I was talking postseason. That's when we're talking about these cats reaching the Finals so those are the numbers that matter. Their regular season numbers are irrelevant. But Hakeem really did it still![]()
And the 98 Jazz had Hornacek putting up 14.2 and Stockton only gave you 12 but it was with 8.5 assists in only 29 minutes.
07 Cavs Larry Hughes averaged 15 a game, but yeah that crew wasBron got swept tho
Hakeem had one shooter on the roster and 0 dimersand won a title

You selling those guys a bit short.Hakeem had one shooter on the roster and 0 dimersand won a title

I expect stats to decrease in the playoffs, especially for role players. I'm using regular season to gauge what you got in general and all year and overall where you're at.I was talking postseason. That's when we're talking about these cats reaching the Finals so those are the numbers that matter. Their regular season numbers are irrelevant.
Hughes only averaged 11.3ppg on 34% shooting in the '07 playoffs and didn't even play the last two games (Cavs looked better with him on the bench anyway).
Hornacek and Stockton only averaged 11.1ppg and 10.9ppg in the '98 playoffs and Jazz still made the Finals and took the Bulls to 6.
You right though that Hakeem the only one who actually won that shyt.
You selling those guys a bit short.
Vernon Maxwell
Robert Horry
Kenny Smith
Sam Cassell
Those four working together were plenty enough to run the offense and shoot the rock, it was a good group with Hakeem in the middle. Add Otis Thorpe on the boards and Mario Elie locking guys down on the perimeter, and they had a squad. And ALL of them were hitting clutch shots.
yeah, Finley - another guy who was better than what people remember
Tim Hardaway
Van Exel
Stackhouse
Tyson Chandler, Dampier, Juwan Howard, Popeye, and Shawn Bradley to play post so Dirk didn’t have to
Josh Howard, remember him?
they got Peja from Sactown
Devin Harris
Jason Terry
Nobody named Antwan Jamison?Dirk had plenty of help lol
You can argue the post-Jordan generation of stars pushed him out now but 97 this was some bullshyt. The truth is that Dominique is kind of overrated. He was an athletic volume scorer that didn’t defend well or create for others.
It’s a reason he was left off the NBA’s top 50 team, wasn’t an original Dream Team selection, and ranked only 40th on SLAM’s 1997 Top 50 list.
‘Nique is in the Carmelo Anthony range of players.
But all these guys were just above journeyman, no one to really get you a chip......good players no doubt, but mehDoc
Eddie Johnson, one of greatest scorers everybody forgot was great
young Antoine “OG Big Dog” Carr
prime Tree Rollins
they had Lorenzo Charles right after The Miracle Game, but he played Nique’s position
Plastic Man
Mookie Blaylock, perhaps the best defensive guard after GP and Mike
They also won't mention Aaron McKie leading the Sixers in scoring in game 7 vs Toronto. Game was decided by one point. Iverson scored 2 points in that 4th Q. McKie 6.
If his teammates were really trash then you'd know it by the team result.
