TL;DR
- semester final project was due on my bday
- had fam I hadn't seen in years surprise me before class wanting to go to dinner.
- missed class but tried to turn it in before class via email.
- professor didn't accept it via email
- A+ work gets a 50/100 dropping my A to a B in the class.
- I'm mad because it's not like I didn't offer to turn it in with proof it was done and it's not like I missed my presentation.




So my accounting final was a project where we make a full 10K Annual Report for a company. I ended up with a B in the class because he gave me a 50 on the final.

It was to be turned in (in person only) the class before the last class and presented on the last class.

The day the project was due was also my birthday.

An hr before I had to turn in the project in person. My brother shows up at my apt door by complete surprise. He's a sarg. In the military stationed in Alaska, I hadn't seen him in 3 years.

He was heading to a training in Mississippi and his commander allowed him to fly into his hometown instead and drive the rest of the way the next day so he can see his fam.

So he pops in and wants to go to dinner before he lives early in the AM. This is a late class 8pm, so I hit my professor up. No response.

I offer to send in my project so it's accounted for and explained why I wouldn't make it to class. Hoping he'd allow it. He hits me back at like 11pm telling me I had to turn it in next class but he's not sure what he's gonna do with it and that I can't send it in.

This project took over 30hrs. I come in next class turn it in in person, present. He never updates my grade. Grades are turned in and now he emails me and says he gave me a 50. Even though it was A+ work.

I'm pissed off.

Some professors are sticklers for their process.

Here are some of the options and advice:

a) always prioritize school. make no exceptions. some teachers are in flexible
b) talk to dean about. the dean might have some clout to initiate a change.
c) talk to the teacher again, he/she might say no!
d) look into the policies about department about electronic submission/etc...sometimes even a prof rules are antiquated
e) take the class and get and Incomplete and take it again for A with the same professor. it is a gamble.
f) appeal to the dean for grad change.

Nah man. He's hella chill and we actually were close during the semester. It was all jokes in class. Homie even never called on me randomly when ppl didn't participate cuz I was doing so well in the class and paid attention.

I think he just wanted to fukk with me. I had a high A in the class. Had I still had received a passing grade 70, still would have had an A in the class. Think he just wanted me to drop a letter grade.

No. But in Similar fashion such as an interview. Showing up 15 to 20 minutes late without calling a long time in advance would likely get you passed over for the job, too.

I would feel fine if everyone who was "late" to class cuz They were in the library doing last minute work lost points too.

My Pre-Cal teacher failed me despite me going to tutors, having a roommate who was getting his master's in math tutoring me, going to the professor himself for tips and confirming he grades based on a curve, as well as not if you got the problem right but the steps and logic you used to arrive at your conclusion. I attended more classes than my friend who attended the same class, got tutoring every other week and was always following the latest course material. He gave me a failing grade by 5 points I legitimately showed I wanted to get an understanding of the material and gave it more effort than I give my core major classes. There are a million and one different reasons he failed me by such a small amount beyond him being a fat ugly jealous racist CAC - But I put it behind me took it as a lesson that I need to humble myself and take remedial math in order to graduate and focus on my strengths at the time which were foreign language, history, marketing and poly sci.

Sometimes there is nothing you can do. For an accounting degree a B+ average in college it will be a little tougher upon graduating but as long as you focus on getting strong internships and networking you'll be fine. Worse comes to worst we need accounting majors in Digital Marketing and Ad Tech

Your GPA isn't everything. I'm 7 years out and yeah you have the occasional job description that says you should have graduated with this major and this GPA. As soon as they look at my resume they aren't caring about no damn GPA. High GPA doesn't prepare you for the real world, teach you how to communicate with colleagues, speak CAC and other intangibles essential for surviving even basic corporate jobs. Recruiters know this so by the time you are in your 3rd year of your career you can safely laugh at GPA particularly if you have worked with big companies by then or picked up a highly needed skill.

These dudes are going to try and tell you to put a lot of this academic and work related stuff over life but if you can bail because it's important to you then do it.

School isn't the universe nor the world and neither is work so Dont sacrifice your life entirely for them.

College is a game just like corporate world....Play or get played....

Sometimes you win sometimes you lose. By virtue of you being graded by a human being the only way you can get a 4.0 out of college is to be a CAC Woman that sucks good dikk and can fake being a lesbian when needed as well. There is a reason why only a lot of Black Spellman and HBCU grads have 4.0 and we can't get those high grades at any other institutions. Where else can we get those kind of grades, the system is designed to hold us back not propel us forward.

College may be the last bastion of complete blatant racism and stereotypes - Black Athletes get a HUGE pass all the time with professors while the regular joes get this look and they will try and give you a grade as low as possible without you being able to pull the race card.

Playing sports is one of the last forms of buck dancing respected by the CAC elites so they will promote and reward Black athletes the most while trying to suppress Black Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers and CPAs

Thisis real life, it doesn't matter what's fair, or anything personal you had going on aside from death or an emergency. I have seen professors no make excuses for emergencies either. You could possibly appeal but I don't even think he was that out of line.

You could have even shown up to class early and talked to him in person, he may have let you leave earlier. You have your priorities and your grade suffered. I have been careless in the past too. Just make learn from this.
