Dirk was given a super team with nash and finley and dirk was loaded with talent in 2006 when he was raped by Wade and washed up role players like antoine walker. GO ahead and blame the refs and ignore the fact the mavs were missing key free throws INCLUDING DIRK.

Look at the larger picture. KG has consistently put up offense while being much better defensively.. YOu are letter the fact that Dirk is better NOW taint you recollection of 2001 to 2008 when KG was 1 rank above dirk.

When you go back to the early to mid 2000's no one had Dirk over Garnett. KG was the better passer, playmaker, rebounder, defender and while Dirk had an edge on him as a scorer, KG was no slouch. Dirk wasn't the dominant scorer that we saw in 2011 throughout his career. Before 2008 smaller players would routinely take him out of games just playing him man to man. I'm talking players that were 6'7 here. After the first round series vs the Warriors where Stephen Jackson locked down Dirk. Dirk worked on his face up and post up game in the off season and since then smaller players had no shot at guarding him.

There is no way in hell I'm taking any version of Dirk before 2008 over a prime KG, but if we are talking post 08 Dirk its tough. It would all depend on what my team needs. If I already have a go to scorer then I'm taking KG. If I already have a defensive anchor then I'm taking Dirk. Overall I would give the slight edge to KG because of his all around game.

KG was already on the Larry Holmes short list in 2010

DIrk was considered a perennial loser and choker until 2011

Dirk was considered a pretty bad teammate back in the sohh days.

Dirk is a horrible fukking defender

KG was better in his prime than Dirk in his prime.

Kg is not a number 1 scoring option. Dirk was avg 9 boards a game in 2003. Two less a game than Garnett. Put Garnett on the Mavs and teams will focus more on Finley. Nash wasn't a scorer til he got to Phoenix

The thing is, when people say memorable they are more than likely referring to offense which are made for TV moments...I think all the dirty work that it takes to win a ship goes unnoticed...And KG used to put in a lot of dirty work on top of being the best defender, boarder, while still putting up 20 plus...

I'd prefer KG over Dirk cause its a lot of ways I can build a team around him....But if someone says Dirk is better, I couldn't put together a real valid argument as to why he is not.....Just my preference overall

All this is so true....I was the only cat defending Dirk around my way when people were calling him soft....(He really wasn't, he just didn't bang and board hard enough for a 7 footer in most people's eyes) You couldn't find nobody saying Dirk was better than the Big Ticket prior to 2011....NOBODY...

But that's what the media and a championship will do for ya I guess...It makes people's mind up for them and makes others have short term memories..

This is true. I've always liked Dirk and I think he got a bad rap for 2007. Being a warriors fan I knew we had the mavs number that year.

BUt to be in LA during the Mavs/Lakers series in 2011 ... to be running around sunset laughing at laker fans... Dirk will have my eternal gratitude for that.

But The case for KG rests on his defense.

Where did KG shut down or limit superstars in the playoffs? If you can't give me answers how can you say his d is more impactful then Dirk's offense?
