I dont get this streams shyt. For example, those streams for hotline bling were already "used" to say so for the singles chart. To count it again, is stupid.

I get that streaming should be included in charts, but this way its retarded. Also don't understand why streams from 9 months prior count into the 1st week. Thats even more retarded:mindblown:

If they wanna do it fair, they should change the charts into a box office system. So that you can see how much money the album gained, instead of the sales plus streaming bullshyt

Yes definitely. Maybe equal to 50.

I think you must have short term memory then:dahell:

You tellin me a guy whos been traditinally a 2 million copies selling artist, whos done nothing to really build on his fanbase and has consistenly sold the same....is bigger/equal than peak 50 and Nelly who went diamond:laff:?there was no groundswelling of people looking to buy this album that dont usually buy drakes albums....Drake aint bigger than prime Wayne, definitly not bigger than or equal to 50:comeon:

he might be peak TI or Luda at best and thats pushin it....the numbers dont lie,the man consistently sold about 2 million records since his debut....nothing needs to change bout the system,it was consistent, and drake consistently dropped music his fans liked. We changimg the whole system because other artist cqnt maintqin they fanbases by giving quality albums that make them want to buy the next album:laff:? Drake hasnt built on his fanbase to support the numbers this album is supposed to do.

people are forgetting the influence of 50

you go to any country on earth and ask them to name a rapper they're gonna say 50 cent

In da club broke the record as the "most listened-to" song in radio history within a week

and nowadays is so much easier to reach Worldwide appeal and get your name out, back in 2003 no body had this social media shyt. Most things were spread through word of mouth. back when nikkas couldnt use the phone and the internet at the same time. they were smackin their tv's to fix the color when his first music video dropped

50 became a worldwide figure in the era where the world was still disconnected, his debut single in da club reached number one in Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Greece, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands, and number three in United Kingdom. In Australia, the single peaked at number one, was certified two times Platinum

motherfukkers couldnt even speak ENGLISH and they were listening to 50 enough to make him number 1 in fukkin Norway and shyt

only way Drake can get close to the level of 50 cent in his prime is if he sends out his tentwriters to find all 7 dragonballs

Drake is the biggest rap artist of this generation. Eminem was bigger than 50 and Nelly at the time they came out. Nelly was extremely popular but he didn't completely dominate the rap game with the amount of hits Drake has. If this was 2000, and Drake had the popularity he has now, he'd easily go diamond.

There are two things that should be pointed out....

This is a different era so you can't directly compare 50 Cent, Eminem, Nelly, or any of those big sellers from then to now. Eminem would have done 20 million on streams in his hay day. The other part is that people are so feverish and quick to buy albums these days that there is very little long term sales. 90% of the people who want the Drake album already got it or have already streamed it. Many will move onto something else.

Hotline Bling would have been added even if this whole streaming/padding the stats stuff didn't exist. It's pretty standard to put a single that big on whatever album comes out next even if the song already ran its course before May is over.

We are arguing if he really sold 600 or 800k? lol. It really doesn't matter, hes going platinum.

The new system is fundamentally unfair as it factors in how much someone listens to the music, as opposed to just simply sales.

Unfair as it regards to measuring sales now to the past.

In the past, if I bought an album and listened to it 1000 times it counted as much as someone who bought an album and never took it out of the plastic.

Actually it's the best possible system, although I disagree with counting streams from singles, but it is unfair to compare numbers from this system to any album under the old system.

i see what you're saying because 1 person will buy an album but no one on earth will stream a song 1500 times ever

but dont forget how cost effective to set up bots that constantly stream songs 24/7 without getting detected vs going out and buying albums.

because that number only included the streams off apple music

"Sources at Republic Records say that Views earned over 630,000 equivalent units in its first day at Apple Music and iTunes combined."

hotline bling's streams on apple music alone was 273k equivalent album units which contributed to the 630k total

Y'all either can't read or are not good at math

1.1 billion streams/1500 = 733k
