I'm from where Petey come from
What do you mean?

They do. And depending on where you're at, yes loud speakers. If you're off camp, in a country like Saudi, then everything essentially stops until prayer time is over. Shops/restaurants stop service etc.

If you live or work one of the expat compounds, then that shyt is ignored. Business/ppl go about their day regardless. Tho some who practice will excuse themselves to pray.

Indeed, I experienced this first hand when I was in Qatar and Maldives a few years back.

Tons of people are getting laid off in Middle East rite now.

it’s not a good time.

also lots of countries have borders closed so even if you get job it would be let’s say September before you could come

This is very true. I have friends that are in Qatar, they told me the government has a tracker on everyone’s phone so they can contact trace plus they closed their borders. They told me they have to be “extra careful” especially since they’re not Qataris :francis:

Yup, bad timing. Unprecedented.

We had massive layoffs. I made it through, but a number of friends/neighbors weren't so lucky.

The Arabic countries held steady for a bit but ultimately too many body blows by Covid, with the countries already leaking with plummeting oil prices.

It's unfortunate because it was all good just 4 months ago. Hell, 1 month ago even.

But the fun is over. I hope muthafukkas saved up.

I was thinking about applying for this position with Raytheon and Qatar Airways but I’m stable in my current six figure plus position.

if job is with Raytheon and on defense side it’s likely to not be affected by this downturn if it’s US government funded. My contractor friends aren’t really feeling affects of this employment wise.

in regards to that job with Qatar Airways, unless it’s a pilot, I hope it’s at the senior manager level or higher. They tend to not put six figure type salaries because it’s so many people from non western countries they can hire to do those jobs for significantly less that what a westerner would command.

source: I’ve been in Qatar almost 5 years

Thanks for the heads up in regards to Qatar Airways. Both are senior procurement positions. I’m sure the Raytheon position is six figures or close to it. Do these defense contractors offer fringe benefits e.g. housing/ transpo stipends?

My close friend had that procurement manager role with Raytheon for the past year if that's the one you're referring to. It just got bumped up to a manager II level role after he left the company.

And ya housing is provided. Typical apartment within a 5 star hotel. Think The W, Marriott, Hilton Residences, etc. And you get an allowance for a car. I wanna say it's about $1,000 monthly. In that role you would be working in the Raytheon main office in Downtown Doha (West Bay) so it's not your standard on base role. Not to say you wouldn't visit the bases from time to time.

@Primetime what's it like out there right now?

Since last time, no more direct gloom and doom flareups (as far as layoffs) but it's still dormant. Covid's economic impact + the oil downtown is still in effect.

Add to it that the travel bans on Americans by pretty much every country, and I don't really see much hiring anytime soon.

Maybe something essential like medical related, but idk if they'd go with US folks not just bc of the bans but bc they can hire cheaper from other countries.

Last time he updated us he said it wasn't looking to hot...

Hope shyt doesn't stay dried up. I really wanna make it out there before I hit 30 lol.

There's definitely going to be more layoffs for us, tho the rumor is it'll be steady over the next 3 years and not another massive cut like last month.

However no one believes that "steady" shyt lol and we're all working on our own fall back plan if the worst were to happen. But that's just my company specifically, tho we were one of the bigger/"safer" companies.

Ultimately, I think it's going to be dry for a minute for most of the arabic countries; especially for corporate/non-essential oil&gas positions, flight attendants, and teachers.
