Who said that?

As for work ethic, I bet a fry slave works much harder than your average office drone.

I had a full-time class load, a full-time job and a 6 week old infant while I finished up my degree. So because I'm not slaving over some hot grease everyday , that devalues the effort I put in? LOL nah. I worked smarter so I wouldn't have to do minimum wage jobs all my life.

Are you all slow? I'm asking how someone is supposed to live off those wages TEMPORARILY and your response is go to school? :what:

Student loans pay for SCHOOL. They don't pay bills. How is a 35 year old mother of two working part time at McDonald's supposed to pay rent/utilities/food/clothes etc while she's going to school? That's the point. How is she supposed to live in the meantime? Temporarily? Are you all seriously this dense?

And instant gratification? nikka, you all discuss going to school like you can just walk into any college and be like, "Hey teach, I'm here!" All of that shyt takes time and effort. Meanwhile bills are piling up.

So once again; how is someone supposed to work at a minimum wage job, part time, go to school and pay bills? It's not about making it a career. It's about surviving at any level for any length of time. Could you survive on $8 an hour while you try to improve your situation? No.

Government assistance such as TANF and food stamps, while they try to find a higher paying job. The problem is grown ass people are working these shytty jobs and a lot of them aren't even looking to advance their payscale, they just rather get govt asst and collect that 7.50 an hour.

Maybe that 35 year old should've waited until after she graduated to have those two kids? :leon:. I mean I'm all for sticking it to the 1%, but stupidity and irresponsibility should not be awarded either.

But really, $15 an hour still aint shyt in NY. You couldnt get a decent 1br anywhere except the outskirts of the city with that wage, which is why this city is becoming roommatesville. We should be supporting these people. I'm no socialist, but corporations are reaping windfalls and the vast majority of americans aren't seeing a dime of it. Something you all have to remember is, we can't all be rich. We can't all be IT specialist/surgeons/lawyers.

Student loans, govt assistance

College kids do this all the time. As far as your single mom example, choices come with consequences. She chose to have multiple kids w/o a career, man or support system. Its not McDonalds obligation to mitigate the consequences of her choices. Because someone from her background or even her family probably faced the same challenges she did, but made the right choices and is thriving. A slightly bigger paycheck in a city like NYC in 2013 won't do shyt.

So who here works for themselves... :mjpls:
Sooooooo... Nobody is gonna answer who here works for themselves and who is part of this corporate monster huh... :mjpls:
So we're not gonna answer who here has a job & who works for themselves huh... :mjpls:
I don't think anybody in this thread works for themselves, but you knew that already. Most people in society are forced to work for someone else, so I'm not sure what point you were trying to make.

And you can't exactly call people out for dodging a question when you, and several people on your side of the fence, avoided my responses earlier in this thread.

Anyway, this should have ended pages ago. Most of you guys are relying on nothing more than anecdotes and personal stories while ignoring actual research. Might as well just agree to disagree at this point.

To have kid(s) in NYC you need at least a 2 bedroom apartment. Minimum annual income requirements are 40x monthly rent. The CHEAPEST 2 BR you can find in a safe neighborhood w/proximity to the train (because there is no way you will be able to afford a car too) is $1500. Thats $60K/yr income. A far cry from $15/hour part time.

People are dissing the matrix & preaching against it but are part of it... or unemployed... that was my point...

But most people need to be a part of society and work for someone else in order to earn a living, so I'm just not sure exactly why you were trying to make that point. You're allowed to be be critical of society while still being a part of it. Most people have no choice in that regard. Anyone working towards making a change still need to pay the bills.
