Finally read Cosbys whole speech. Why would a black person disagree?

Those are great lessons to teach your children on an indivudal(micro) level. But when we start talking about our people as a whole(macro) then that is not sufficient information at all. You're setting your kids up for failure/disappointment by oh giving them half the story. And you doom them to a life of disadvantage by not advocating for them on a macro level.

They're only 2 and 7. When they get of age, they will get the non G rated version of being black boys and men in America. I'm not crazy.

Both of my wife's parents were teachers and were HBCU alums. My kids have no choice but to have their shyt together academically.

Like I said in those 5 points, that's what I personally got out of his message and from that perspective of what I interpreted personally, I'm not going to say it was "wrong".

And a person like Bill who grew up in an age of blatant cism and cacs cac'in definitely does understand the plight more than some think he doesn't.

So we have to take advantage of the opportunities that are available to us (even if not as great as whites') and play the best we can with the hand we've been dealth.

Blacks have done better since the CRM but we're still not doing enough. There are still too many uneducated n iggas. Still too many n iggas who don't speak English properly. Still too many n iggas who engage in illegal/criminal behavior. Still too many n iggas who dress inappropriately or like criminals. Too many black children being born out of wedlock. Too many n iggas living in poverty. So apparently we're not doing enough.

And, lastly, Cosby (who's amassed a great personal fortune) has done more for blacks than you or I or anybody in this thread has ever done or will ever be able to do. He's given millions to HBCUs. He's set up countless charities and has given a substantial number of blacks countless opportunities to succeed. And he's also helped the image of blacks and black families. I'm positive that Cosby knows the ins and outs of systematic racism. Who are we to question his words, especially when they ring true.

If cosbys point stopped here then it would be fine. It didn't though. He tried to connect individual personal responsibility of a small subset of our community, with the status/success of the entire community.

Not true at all. Raising a responsible black family helps our plight more than any tone-def speech. Being on the ground and actually helping people does more than pointing fingers and donating money.

Agreed. Cosby knows the game and knows how slimy these cacs are. And with that being said, there's still things we can do on our own without them to uplift ourselves.

You can't take the part of the speech that people have the problem with and pretend its not there.


If all Cosby said was. Go to school, be good parents, then nobody would have a problem with the speech. It's all the extra connections and implications he tried to make that people didn't appreciate.

What's your threshold for "too many"

In reality regardless of race or situation. You take ten people, a couple will go above and beyond, a couple will totally fail, and the majority will fall in the middle somewhere. You take that same ten people and place a systemic constant burden on their shoulders, then only the extraordinary will make it. It's not a conducive strategy to say black people should ignore everything else and just be extrodinary. It just doesn't work like that.

YOU do not have control over these things, YOU do not have some kind of insane number of people in the states to overtake them. So, YOU cant and wont be able to control a thing without their permission. NOt in the US. if you want to be self sustained.. i aint mad at that. sounds good. But realize. that will never happen here in the US. You will have to go some where else. Some other part of the globe where most of the people look like you and where most of the people that look like you RUN the country(not just figure heads being propped up by some european country).
