every album is like the same thing, it's not 'hot' when it drops
but when you re listen to the album like after a few months or a year, then it's fire
although, marketing has a huge factor when it comes to determine what is hot as soon as the album drops as it plays a major role

i think the only album that was really as soon as it dropped was the 7 day theory by 2pac.. shyt was magical..

Why would I, same time pac was bumping nas, me and my brothers were. We didn't love the album but fukked with a few songs off of it.

7 day theory was a disappointment initially since it wasn't a star studded death row album like AEOM.

edit - also, like you said: yall experience =/= my reality...i'm not gonna change my opinion just to go with he crowd...for yall it might not have been hot and getting play like that, but it was getting play like that around my way....

It wasnt hot when it dropped though,its what we been arguing about this whole thread....did you hear the other artist Future mentioned as who was hot at the time....you wanna tell me Jayz and RD was "hot" in comparison:mjlol:

Jay-z wasn't on that level yet. It took him LEAVING Priority and joining Def Jam alongside DMX and Ja Rule to blow....which you do have to give most of the credit to Irv Gotti. That's why it wasn't any coincidence that all of them blew up roughly the same time in '98.

On some deal making shyt yea, but as far as Jay becoming hot, credit to bad boy crew,puff .
Biggest features on first album
Were Mary and biggie, two stars created and executive produced by puff.
He was featured doing the intro on biggie artist's and bad boy affiliates Lil Kim's classic debut.
Appeared on bigs classic double album.
Appeared on Puff's classic album
Appeared on ma$e classic album
Those albums would go on to sale
23 million plus.
Had a very bad boyish sounding second album.
Also had a stint in NO Way out tour.
He was ready for the big stage and finally had a mega hit with HARD KNOCK LIFE, although not produced by the team, was along that formula of success.
