This direct correlation drawn between defense spending, and edu spending needs to be spelled out a little clearer for me :patrice:

Is spending still seen as the issue with education? Its been shown time and time again that throwing money at the problem doesn't(and won't) fix it...
Why does this argument persist?
only an issue when people can't afford it.

all state schools should be free.

We keep adding. we have buildings in iraq that cost over 11million. we are expanding into africa..........
we have closed bases before and can easily close bases in EU.
We can pull completely out of the Mid east - and just leave our cia there.

And the justification for all of this can be.......
We want free national higher education, better early childhood education, and wish to invest in our people before dishing money out
Yes. That belief has been out there for a very long time. Why is the US spending money to support allies while we leave our own citizens hanging?
It's all about power and protecting common interests. I scratch your back, you scratch mine. We have established relations with allies. Like we don't need to be in Germany anymore. The cold war is over. East and West German are now one. We could have closed the bases in Germany. Fast forward a couple decades, we use those military bases in Germany to provide support for operations in the Middle East, medical and logistical among two things.

Even as far back as 2014, the US had to sequester federal employees because there was an impasse and we couldn't raise the debt ceiling. After that whole thing passed, we gave a ton of money to Pakistan. That was kind of a sucky move. Kind of like giving a $100 to the drug addict brother-in-law while not giving a dollar out to the hard working brother who has two kids and two jobs. Pakistan government leaders helped cover up for Osama bin Laden and knowingly knew of his location while he was alive. Why? If you followed the world news, months after the US provided humanitarian financial aid to Pakistan, the US was able to catch multiple key al Queda leaders (listed in the top 10, not low-level hobos) like it was a cake walk. I'm pretty sure the Pakistani government dimed out some al Queda leaders location for cash.

Individual states can't be forced into doing that. Not every state has the same budget. Compare California, Texas, Delaware and Vermont. All have different populations, industries and state revenue.

You can apply to US Military Academy, Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, or Coast Guard Academy and get a free college education that way too. They cover almost everything: room and board, uniforms, books, equipment, supplies. You just have to sign your life over.

You wouldn't know it but all the Caribbean nations know its there just in case.

That's right, until they don't have the supplies or equipment to recover from a natural disaster... because Germany doesn't meddle in their affairs. They don't even send help or money.

Conflate empire expanding military industrial complex with humanitarian aid brehs.

I don't agree with the way the US gov't has been spending, regardless of whether the president is Republican or Democrat. Ralph Nader, at first, seemed to be a white stick-in-the-mud. Now, I see him as the realest n*kka, figuratively speaking. He uncovered a lot of government spending waste. That still goes on. Pretty sad. We have all these internal checks and balances for every agency; but still, people are able to budget dumb-stuff into wasteful expenses.

All the spending in the 80s, 90s and 2000s have created this huge government. It added jobs and those jobs helped the economy. And it made all the past Presidents look good. Now, we need to cut back. It would take a lot of balls to be a president who promises to decrease military and non-military jobs, closes bases and close departments within an agency in order to decrease the federal deficit. And that President and the party he represents would look like the bad guy, and no one wants to look like the guy who took a dump on the economy.

The US could do this easily, if they cut the government grants and funding to private/for-profit schools and only funded public universities. If someone doesn't like the public schooling, they can pay out of pocket for a private school. All that would need to be implemented is a first semester/first year GPA cut off, or an alternative test to gauge whether or not the student should be granted entrance/allowed to stay at the University.
