Remember we had the talk about MW2, and you said it's more like a Doc's Da Name sequel. LOL!! And it's true.

People try to bring back that feeling, so they throw the sequel title on sh*t, but they can't make an album that can even get close to the OG. AZ did the same thing. Rappers gotta stop doing that, unless they're still able to cook the way they used to. They can't meet the expectations. They're way too high.

Yup, we did and it definitely is lol

The only difference is, Red’s witty and clever lines aren’t there quite like they use to be on MW2.

It’s like he can still rap but he ain’t coming with’that aggressive and sharp grit or edge he use too.

He sounds like “hey I’m just having fun, joking around and this is me at retirement age just joking around, being me but not really trying”

And I get it, no one stays in their prime forever and the 90’s were 30 years ago, a lot has changed and he’s changed as a person. We all have

Red in the 90’s is Jordan on the Bulls

Red post Malpractice is Jordan on the Wizards

Back to the sequels in general, you’re right. Rappers do themselves a disservice by trying to just ride off their glory days with a sequel

It’s impossible to ever recapture the same energy and damn near impossible to even come close original, especially when it’s been so much time between the albums

Try Sour Soul. That was the last undeniably dope Ghostface album with some stellar production from BadBadNotGood.

12 Reasons To Die was good too but you gotta buy into the concept as its not so much a Ghostface album as an Adrian Younge/RZA/Ghostface produced audio movie.

Word?

Alright I’ll check it out and let you know what I’m think. Thanks for the recommendation, bruh:salute:

No tracklist but confirmed to be 22 songs with confirmed features from Nas, Raekwon, GZA, Method Man, Redman, Conway The Machine, Styles P, M.O.P., and Dave Chappelle.

GZA being on it shows that Ghost has good taste. Other guests are great too.

U-God would have been a good fit too but I'm wishing.

This has me curious about the production. Scram did the single, and Ghost has relationships with a lot of classic producers. I would expect and hope this is as good as Cuban Linx 2. Ghost's voice doesn't bother me, hes sounded this way for 15 years and I liked most of his music during that time. Its different, not bad. The pens still sharp.

Ghost in my opinion, always had the best ear for production of the Wu members when they completely split from RZA doing their solo projects. From Pretty Tony to Big Doe Rehab his production ranged from flawless to pretty damn good. Then the label started polluting his discography a bit with a series of random compilation joints (though I enjoyed Hidden Darts) and then he started reusing songs across albums (Back Like That Remix was included on THREE fukking albums) Wizard Of Poetry was good but not amazing, then it seemed like he started throwing stuff out there with little to no direction (Apollo Kids, Wu-Massacre) then he got into the heavy conceptual bag with 12 Reasons and 36 Seasons but those were RZA guided story albums. He bounced back with Sour Soul but everything after that has been a steady decline into mediocrity. The Set The Tone album REALLY disappointed me as I thought for sure he wouldn’t sign to Mass Appeal only to drop some bullshyt, but thats what he did. Wasted a perfectly good Nas feature and settled for some low-tier Kanye shyt and the rest of the album was just forgettable.

Hearing him sound refreshed and hungry over some actual head nodding production is a goddamn Godsend

Yeah the last 2 Ghost albums were not good. I mean some good tracks on them, but when they're surrounded by throwaways not many people are going back to them.

The Ghost Ltd album wasn't great either, not a fan of his beats. I liked all the other stuff.

I’m shocked Ghost even lent any credibility to Big Ghost considering Big Ghost was getting OG Ghost in issues with other rappers when they thought that blog was actually him.

But yea that shyt was forgettable

Everything you just posted is MAD true!

I think a lot of the time, as fans, we're just happy to see dudes still being active. But we have to be honest with ourselves about where they're at now. I've found myself almost forcing myself to like legends' later albums out of denial of the run being over, lol. Some of them just don’t have it anymore. And if that's the case, just go with a new title or series. Don’t do the sequel sh*t when you can't bring the same level of classic to the table anymore.

Yeah, you get it

Exactly! The more recent interviews of Redman I see now, the more and more I’m happy for him.

He’s given his life to hip hop from writing, to producing to recording and then touring constantly, he deserves to be able to enjoy the fruit of his labor and just relax.

He don’t owe us nothing

Yup, I use to be like that too sometimes, lol

What I try to do is have an open mind and get in tune with where the artist is at that moment and sometimes it doesn’t always align and sometimes but we know good music when we hear it and there’s differently a difference music that challenges us as listeners vs music that’s flat out bad lol

But I agree with you; some legends just don’t have it anymore and need not ride the glory days of their prime and just need to make some new shyt. It’s ok to move forward and not try to make a sequel. We need more new shyt anyway, that’s what keeps hip hop moving forward.

Speaking of Funk Doc's production.

Last night, I had the Jamal album on and was blasting this joint:

I really wish Reggie was still making beats like this. Dude had a lot of dope production in the mid-90's when he was making beats all the time. I need my guy to bring back this kinda funk to the production.
