Sorry to hear so many aren't enjoying this--to me it feels like a real GFK album, unlike everything else he's put out in 15+ years

Creative concepts, great storytelling, dynamic flows, throwback production :yeshrug:
I sound like I dislike it way more than I do. It’s largely the name and comparing to to SC1. It’s always a risk with numbered sequels

Its not as bad as yall say but I also had my expectations low for this, so maybe that why I didnt hate as muh.

Ghost last couple of albums hes sounded different, putting a sequel name on a legacy album from an older aritst is always setting yourself up and then Ghostface himself admitted at the album release party ("Ive been sitting on some these joints for years")

So knowing Ghost was just gonna toss some patched up shyt from over the years that HE felt was worthy of SC title is kinda on him. But if you take that out theres some interesting joints here. The start of the title falls into the trap that SLick Rick did of short songs but they get settled into it by the end and the run from The Trial to Metaphysics is dope. Zoom is fire, Candyand kinda goofy. Its a 3.5 solid

This was always the risk with the legend has it series. Its still older guys past their prime on tigher budgets so I wasnt expecting too much. I thought Slick and Rae at least sounded good and so does this but expectations should have been kept at a certain level. I expect the same with Big L and maybe De La we'll see

But with Mobb Deep and Nas, given the producers helming those projects I hope they'll be a bit of a better more concentrated effort but its still wont be 1995

Was going to say yesterday, would be great to get another Ghost album with BBNG or Adrian Younge.

I know they aren't amazing lyrical clinics, but they're excellent start to finish album experiences. The first 12 Reasons is probably the most Wu solo album to drop after NSD. Maybe Ghost needs somebody else to provide the structure these days?

Thats been interesting to see with Ghost last few years. He was always a bit more careful with his work in the 2000s and 2010s and smart with his collaborations for his albums. Hes been chilling lately with these releases (Still good tho)

Eh I can’t get myself to care about these mass appeal albums. They’re there and that’s fine. Legends making albums in their 50s… I’m not mad at it but also the world would be fine without these albums. Im never gonna listen to them again.

They def make Nas’ Hitboy records sound that much better. Maybe I’m just old but as a day one Ghost and Rae stan its just sort of :mjcry:

The challenge always with these albums they were guys in their 50s dropping these albums. Usually albums at that age dont sound pivotal and the budgets and production is gonna be different. I think all things considered they sound better than expected but you can see theres some expectations managed on each one (Short song length, decent production but not mind blowing)

Both Ghost and Rae albums sound ok. I like Rae a little more. This Ghost album could have just gone through another editing and chop down but its still alright

My expectations were low af coming into this, especially after hearing that Rae album. It sounds like a playlist I would’ve made back in the 2010s with loosies from a kayslay tape. There’s no cohesion at all but I’m feeling most of the tracks, some great concepts and story telling. These ogs just need direction, that’s it!

I think they still have it in them to create something dope. It’s just frustrating to hear their children (Roc Marci, Alchemist, all of Griselda) create better music with a sound that they birthed back in the 90s but we end up with an album from a legend that sounds like this. Just reach out to your sons and daughters for help. They are RIGHT THERE!! Just ask!!!!

I feel you--I think I was best positioned to enjoy this, because even as a huge GFK stan deeply anticipating this release, I never expected it to be on the level of SC1. That was just not in the cards for me.

I was hoping for something with the energy and creativity of a real GFK project, not the work-for-hire joints, and for me I got that. I also think even on the newer joints he just sounds more energized and dynamic than he has in a long time. I guess I'm in the minority here but I'd easily put this above albums like Apollo Kids and Big Doe Rehab, which were always a bit dry to me.

I feel like everyone needs the structure. Most of the best albums ever all have either one producer or only a few. Even Fishscale was largely DOOM, Pete Rock, and Dilla on the beats. Supreme Clientele 1 was mostly RZA and Mathematics.

Hearing Ghost struggle through that MOP track was like watching a legendary athlete decline

What happened to his voice?

Edit: it's getting better as I listen tho

He's 55 years old bruh.... like what kinda expectations do yall be having? :dead:

The album was solid... the Nas/GFK joint was dope as fukk.

That's basically where I'm at and like I said in another thread, artists like Slick Rick, Rae and Ghost got an originality and charisma that's lacking in most younger rapper doing music in that lane. So even past their prime they still got an element that's unique.

Dudes can talk about grading on a curve but it ain't about that. It's about being realistic. Especially when a lot of these dudes saying that will lose their mind over some incredibly boring music on here. But most musicians, every genre, drop their best work in their 20s and 30s. I'll take solid releases from the legends over nothing, everyday. Not everything got to be a classic to have value. Especially in this era where you don't got to pay a dime to listen or even spend time digging for it. LL, Clipse and Nas dropped some great projects in recent years and being active is the only way for that to happen.

Off first couple listens I prefer the Rae album to this. I know a lot been said about the production on there but Rae turned back the clock lyrically and he sounded 30 years old. This album got some joints but Ghost vintage energy ain't there with enough consistency. Still a solid release though.
