Speaking of Funk Doc's production.

Last night, I had the Jamal album on and was blasting this joint:

I really wish Reggie was still making beats like this. Dude had a lot of dope production in the mid-90's when he was making beats all the time. I need my guy to bring back this kinda funk to the production.

:ohlawd:

I’m glad you brought this up, because Redman was underrated as a producer

Man he produced some great music during that period of time and it’s crazy because I enjoyed his beats just as much as Erick’s during that time

You know, sometimes i think producers like Redman made it look too easy producing songs like that because I’ll be like “I just know he could still produce shyt like this” :wow:

True!

Half the time, I couldn't tell if he made the beat or E did! HAHA! He said on Combat Jack that Erick taught him how to use the funk in his beats. During that run from like '94-'96, Red and Rockwilder were definitely making some of their funkiest beats ever! E taught them well.

Yessir

Same here, I would always go back and read the linear notes, lol

Yeah and I remember in that book Check The Technique, Red talked about how E taught him how to make beats. That was for Whut thee album. Which E co produced with him.

But Red definitely hit his peak as a producer in 94 to 96; the shyt was damn funky :ohlawd:

Oh for sure

You know what I love, I love how sample driven they were so much so they would re sample their own shyt and make either another hit song or great album cut from a previous song they had already made lol

Like would double down on sampling several times and it ALWAYS sound fresh and NEVER redundant

I don’t want to derail the thread, but this is another quick example. LOL!!

He did "Cummin' Thru Ya F*ckin' Block". Had that crazy ass Quincy Jones sample for the bassline!

When this dropped, that sh*t used to have my little headphones crackling like a MF!!

Aaron Hall sings on E’s Welcome

Then Erick samples Aaron’s vocals Aaron Hall’s from Welcome for E’s other song Do Your Thing, from the same album lol

Then E adding Aaron’s vocals again from Welcome on Funkorama lol

And never once does it sound redundant or out of place :mindblown:

Erick was known for doing that sh*t. LOL!!

But like you said, he was so dope at it, that you didn't mind that he used the same sh*t. He did it in '92 with a Barbara Mason vocal sample. He used it twice that summer, once for Hurricane G's "Milky" and the other time for an EPMD joint right before the breakup, lol.

He’s the only producer who made that shyt work perfectly without ever sounding redundant and that’s a true testament to his genius :myman:

I guess he believes in the motto, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” :russ:

Try Sour Soul. That was the last undeniably dope Ghostface album with some stellar production from BadBadNotGood.

12 Reasons To Die was good too but you gotta buy into the concept as its not so much a Ghostface album as an Adrian Younge/RZA/Ghostface produced audio movie.

The production on Sour Soul is dope but Ghost is totally checked out and sleep walking on it.

Ghost been slowly in decline since at least Big Doe Rehab.

I wanted to like the single but the two samples just clash.

Still hopeful for the album after Rae's joint.

Curious as to who the production team is gonna be on this.

Very happy with the feature line up. Solid.

GZA being on it shows that Ghost has good taste. Other guests are great too.

U-God would have been a good fit too but I'm wishing.

This has me curious about the production. Scram did the single, and Ghost has relationships with a lot of classic producers. I would expect and hope this is as good as Cuban Linx 2. Ghost's voice doesn't bother me, hes sounded this way for 15 years and I liked most of his music during that time. Its different, not bad. The pens still sharp.
When Rae and Ghost did the versus there was an unreleased Alchemist track that he performed which was incredible - I hope that’s on there.

And this ain’t Supreme Clientele 2 without RZA.
