The bill would more than double the federal minimum wage, which is $7.25 an hour — about $15,000 a year for someone working 40 hours a week, or about $10,000 less than the federal poverty level for a family of 4.

House Votes to Raise Federal Minimum Wage to $15
The House approved a bill to more than double the federal minimum wage of $7.25, a level that has not risen since 2009. Its prospects are dim in the Senate.

At this point I wonder what people think will come of his taxes? He isn't being impeached, with house Dems are voting against it and his base wont care. Seems clear that beating him in 2020 is the only path forward.

There hasn't been a one term president since Bush Sr. governed 88-92. Thats almost three decades of two-term Presidents. :hubie:

Nancy Pelosi and 60% of house Democrat’s just voted AGAINST impeachment hearings and to PROTECT Trump!! In the senate about 70%-80% of democrats are AGAINST impeachment. These right wing Trump protectors that call themselves democrats are why Trump will win in 2020 and the house will officially turn republican in 2020. We were told IF we would vote democrat in 2018 they would:

  1. stop trump and put a check on him
2. Impeach Trump

3. Get trumps taxes

NONE of this will take place, I’m only voting for PROGRESSIVE democrats, I will NEVER vote for a democrat that protects trump and votes republican
Im glad more brothers are waking up to the good cop bad cop routine that is American politics

Trump get's impeached, then you got Pence as the President. I can't say I'm right, but I think we should ride this out and try to beat them in 2020.

There's no guarantee you beat them in 2020, then you got four more years of Trump as the President. And at that point, he'll be even more emboldened.

Incumbency gives an advantage. But Trump's strategy seems to be to dig whoever he runs against into the mud so that the electorate is disgusted by the choices as we saw in 2016.

Strategy won't work this time because there is more opposition, he is the POTUS right now, he doesn't have a big record, and his approval ratings while ticked up are at a ceiling of the mid 40s and his floor is the mid 30s... and the opposition has consistently been 55-60% disapproval.

His approval in the MIDWEST including IOWA and OHIO is astounding. He barely won WI, MI, and PA to get the electoral college. But you look at the map, and his path is just as narrow as it was in 2016.

Of course the GOP voters will be motivated, the turnout in FL in 2018 shows they are organized there since Obama won in 2012, there are other states like Ohio where they are stronger. And some of his voters who didn't vote in 2018 will vote in 2020 but... his base has a ceiling.

Like look at this map

Tracking Trump: The President’s Standing Across America

Just since November 2018, he's gotten more unpopular in some of the swing states.

I agree.
Support amongst democratic voters for an impeachment inquiry is stronger than the support you see in from house Dems. I understand they represent all voters in their district, but there's a gap between the expectations they set when they ran in 2018 and what they've actually done. I think it's a joke that they want to now pretend their goal is the 2020 election. We were always going to have a 2020 election and a chance to oust Trump, that is not the accountability we were expecting to see. I strongly prefer them to Republicans but they are both about the same party over country bullshyt.

I voted for Al Green in 2018, he is trying his hardest and I approve of his efforts. I now live in a different district though, my current rep actually voted against the latest impeachment resolution. What a complete waste of time it was for her to flip the seat in 2018.

They still have time to get something done, we'll see...but disappointing so far.

The logic that impeaching Trump will somehow push his support over the line to win re-election versus the loss of support for doing nothing after many bold promises in 2018 is baffling and arrogant to me.

You can't pander to a subset of constituents with one foot in and one foot out the door and be confident you're going to retain 100% of your existing constituency.
