Of course. MJ is the goat in most people's opinion, but there's more debate. He's closer to his peers than Gretzky is. Yes, MJ is better than Magic, Shaq, Bird, etc, but they were all GREAT players with multiple championships, multiple MVPs, and incredible stats. In fact, Kareem has more rings and more MVPs!

On the other hand, I have never EVER heard anyone say Gretzky isn't the GOAT. Statistically he's just too far ahead of everyone else. If you put your bias aside, I don't know how you can deny that Gretzky dominated his sport more from a historical and statistical standpoint than Jordan. It's no slight on Mike. He's still the GOAT.

Both basically did the same thing. Expanded the sport into other countries, broke records and were dominant. Hockey can never be as marketable as basketball though. Nobody just walks around wearing hockey jersey's, you don't wear skates, hockey pants, shin pads etc. anywhere other than a hockey rink. In basketball you can market jersey's which can be worn on more occasions than a hockey jersey and shoes which can be worn anywhere, shorts which can be worn anywhere almost.

im wearing a hockey jersey right now .. its actually a gretzky

hockey jerseys are the same as basketball try one youll like it :demonic:

Compare a player's team accomplishments who is merely 1 forward of 4 forward lines and 3 dmen lines (18 players) to a guy logging 40+ minutes a game and constantly having possession of the ball in a sport with a 8-9 man MAX rotation, brehs

Jordan had a bigger impact on his games just by sheer volume. He got to play 35-40+ minutes out of 48 possible. Forwards in hockey don't even see 25 out of 60 mins a game. To the casual/non-hockey fan, Jordan scoring 30 points in a playoff game seems more "dominant" or "impactful" than Gretzky notching 2 Goals in a playoff game.

I've always believed Gretzky is probably the GOATest of all GOATs. Tiger Woods can enter the discussion if/when he passes Jack Nicklaus in Major victories. Perhaps Michael Schumacher is in the discussion... Like people said earlier in this thread, Gretzky is the ONLY unanimous GOAT in his sport. If you look up ANY meaningful individual hockey record, Wayne Gretzky has it. Can't say the same about Jordan. At all. If we're comparing dominance of players in their respective sports, which is the only real thing you can possibly do in a discussion like this, it's damn near impossible to argue against Gretzky.

lol usually they are only worn for celebration or if you are an icp fan. An nba jersey you can technically pull off anytime in summer, same with basketball shorts. I would wear a hockey t shirt or sweater before an actual jersey.

Good topic executed just horribly

Regular Season? Gretzky >>> Jordan (probably)... And this is what most people were going off.

Playoffs? Jordan's Game elevated, Gretzky's game dipped.... Jordan turned into a God, Gretzky turned human.

Gretzy turned human during the playoffs? Because his 1.92 points per game dropped to 1.84? :heh:

Assuming most of you guys are in your 20's the majority of you guys missed Wayne Gretzky's prime. First off winning Stanley Cups in hockey is way harder than winning NBA championships. What even more impressive is winning it 3/4 years, in a sport where Stanley cup winners don't even make the playoffs the following year. Dude made hockey the most popular it's ever been or will likely ever be. Dude had cats in the hood who knew dikk about hockey wearing hockey jerseys just because. Jordan will forever be the player du jour as basketball is concerned but yes in relative to the sport Wayne was the more dominant player.

Nope most real hocky fans consider Bobby Orr and Gordie Howe better just based on technical ability.

Gretzsky appeals to superficial fans like you and myself cause he was a celeb. I dont fukk wiht hockey like that and I love Gretzky. He's my fav player.
My G what are you talking about? :stopitslime:

There's a few Hockey fans that'll make those silly claims, just like some BBall fans will say Magic was better than Jordan just to be different. But most people acknowledge Gretzky is the goat with no debate. His statistics are absurd.
