Manny Fresh came from a sample dependent BOUNCE background, and he still samples.
Keyboard producers used to be cheesy and overly digitized, so their selling point was "musicianship" and "you don't have to clear".. playing INTERPOLATIONS of previously recorded material, and making them sound worse, since tech wasn't up to par back then.
Mannie is a beast cause he can do everything. He can flip a soul record and make beat with just keys. One of the most talented ever honestly

I was way off the mark.....My theory was that some of the Hip Hop fans who have a resentment for sampling, we're brought up during the South's dominance when some of the most popular tracks we're made with stock sound synths. That's what they were accustomed to.

everyone is going to be partial to stuff they grew up with, just how music is

who did What U Know, Toomp? thats a monster beat to create from scratch. he gets props for that

Playing three/four chords on an Axiom 25, and adding some hi hats and snares with a VST in fruityloops isn't that much impressive either.

People forget this is when you had to actually dig in the crates.
This is the essence of hip-hop.
Going to the record stores
Growing up in a family where you were raised on the sounds of the previous decades.
Alot of intiuitiveness in the craft of production was built in the 90s sampling period.

Toomp made it...I looked it up, and they claim he actually replayed an interpolation of this sample though....Sounds similar enough, so I believe it.

It's definitely an interpolation.
Just like Mike and Keys stole my chops to make beast mode.
I'm gonna snitch since they said there is no sample.

If you hate sampling, you hate hip-hop.

The art form was invented by spitting rhymes over already made songs. It's evolved but at it's core, the most purest form of hip-hop involves sampling.

Using 100% original beats is basically electronic music, unless you're playing instruments like The Roots.

I will say there was a point where a lot of hit tracks lacked creativity when it came to sampling, but with the right producer that does put in work, it can be epic.

The original creators of that Roberta flack record got credit on TI's track

Songwriter(s)

The sampling I find myself being most blown away by are cats like Dilla or Just Blaze who can take a large portion of a track and just completely rearrange it into something new. Some of those Just Blaze flips, especially the epic ones have me like ":mindblown:". Even if they're leaving the loops relatively untouched, the understanding of sequencing and progression is on another level.

just blaze Became my favorite sample producer after he flipped Rick James Superfreak

Glad somebody brought this up. A lotta nikkas hate on music simply because they feel the process by which it was made wasn't complicated enough. If it sounds good then who cares? This producing shyt is fairly simple, not easy, but simple.
As far as sampling goes it's the same thing. Have you noticed when nikkas complain about uncreative loops, it's only when it's a popular song. A lot of producers sample rare songs but it's okay for them to do the 4 bar loop with drums over it, as long as you haven't heard the sample before

I think it's the pressure and the familiarity. RZA mentioned in the Wu-Tang Manual that he tried to chop up more well-known samples, but if he found some rare shyt like the Liquid Swords sample he'd just let it ride lol.

Sampled shyt will always be my favorite kind of hip hop. Even if you have a whole studio of musicians that shyt just doesn't have the same vibe.
Like I'm a HUGE fan of Adrian Younge and rappers sound dope over music but for me I'll still go production by with Pete Rock, Premo or The RZA
