Nah breh that nWo storyline revolved just as much around sting as it did Hogan and Company. The whole fake Sting thing was built so he can gain that darker edge to fight the nWo on their level.
Dude got pops without saying a word and just chillin in the rafters. When he appeared and attacked the nWo for the first time, the crowd came unglued. He was the perfect guy to defend WCW at the time.
When the nWo came about DDP was only two years removed from being a comedy jobber. As much as I popped for DDP Diamond Cutting Scott Hall when he had his big turn I didnt see him as the ultimate hero. It was always going to be Sting, Goldberg and Luger.
The nWo was ruined due to Hogan and Nash's egos and inability to get along. Sting was the only thing keeping the angle from getting stale from the repetitive beatdowns and one sided advantages.
If you dont like Sting, cool but I was watching that era and I remember it very vividly. People definitely gave a fukk about him. He wasnt getting booed like some other world champions. No one has propped Sting up on here like some have Bryan so he really doesnt deserve the hate he gets on here imo.
People cared about Sting attacking the NWO. Not Sting independently. The gimmick carried him. Its like Goldberg's streak. There's nothing special about Goldberg, they could've given anyone a 150+ winning streak and they would've been over, given the fact that the company was over. But what happens after the streak is gone? Samething happened to Sting when the NWO was over.

2) Flair, Savage, Warrior
3) HBK, Hall & Nash (collectively)
