The Beastie Boys was without a doubt the biggest link between white mainstream and Hip Hop. Their 1986 first album going diamond confirms this.
Jeff and Fresh Prince winning the first grammy followed by Fresh Prince getting his own TV show on NBC was also a big contributor to Hip Hop and mainstream.

These were also major factors in Hip Hops grand rise into popularity not seen prior.

This thread just reminds me of how easy it was a to hate on Puff at that time. I was one of them. But a lot of stuff he was doing had already been done. Plus so much classic music came out from the Bad Boy label. Folks gotta remember all this was during that keep it real era so it was easy to look at him in a negative light
