As a healthcare professional, a lot of you have some solid recommendations as far as NON-Pharmacological options. MOderate exercise at least 3 times a week, cut out the junk food, eat better, multi vitamins and water....

But there's a significant amount of people who will still be at risk for elevated blood pressure and all its risks even if they do everything right. It is genetic in many people. Idiopathic, there's no clear reason for it. These are the people that NEED to take the lisinopril, ARBs, Calcium Channel Blockers etc. And they may need to take the statins if they can't manage their cholesterol properly. Black people need to stop this only natural herbs and shyt approach. It's willful ignorance in many cases that will get you killed. @WhereIsTheLove

EDIT: for African Americans, a lot of us don't respond well to lisinopril, but amlodipine is our first choice.

You all keep mentioning drink water but never say how much? For some one with high blood pressure what is the adequate amount of water that one should drink each day?

Water can't hurt but drinking quarts a day won't really do much. As was already said exercise and reducing your salt intake is critical so check your diet and read labels for sodium content. Most importantly check your family history. If high BP runs in your family you may be predisposed and may need meds. Certain BP meds work better in African Americans than others so talk to your doc. Godspeed and good luck friend.

Change your diet. Lots of water, less salt. Tons of veggies.

It may sound strange, but empty your bladder as much as possible. Holding it especially will raise your blood pressure.

I recently noticed a couple of my readings getting a little higher than average (I check regularly). I'm going to see a doctor on Monday. How do people fight high blood pressure naturally?

Hibiscus tea. I tend to have high bp, I drank the tea for a week, when I went to the md it was 117/65.

Reduce sodium intake

Eat healthy foods...no fried, low fat, more fresh and frozen veggies, less pork, more chicken and seafood

Juicing veggies with a lil fresh fruits

Drink less to no sodas, drink alcohol sparingly

Reduce stress....find less stressful job, don't get a woman or friends who gonna stress and worry u too much, distance urself from family members who cause stress, manage finances and don't get woman who don't wanna work unless u have very high paying job
