All athletes are better today

Women today run the 100 meter dash faster then Jesse Owens

yeah, but the tracks are sleek. Jessie and them were on gravel just about.

But I do agree with you

So OP is mad that players arent taught post moves anymore....thats what i got out of this.

Most players are drilled 90% perimeter based skills.....it is what it is

Players today are more skilled and athletic, and the league has way more overall talent.

Nowadays, every roster spot matters. Back in the day, it didn’t matter who was on your team past the 8th spot. And really it was just the top 3-4 players who really mattered. The the dudes at the end of the bench were just warm bodies for practice. :mjlol:
Archie Goodwin is the god of summer league scoring and can’t even find a spot on a NBA team

:francis: It's apples to oranges comparison; different rules, different world. If the '96 Bulls were to play in this league, I can't guarantee a win, but what really gets me exited is if you took all the goats of the past and gave them the same nutrition, training, and resources that we have today, the league would be :banderas:. Today, Steph Curry et al has the film from all of the NBA from years past, plus the computer technology to address all of their flaws; if they can shave .001 of his release, they can find it, when in Jordan's era, you couldn't. What if Olajuwon had the research tech that these guys have today? What if Dr. J had the nutrition advice that our players have?

Better skilled as in shooting and dribbling.

Remember just back in the day BIG MEN where taught NEVER to dribble the ball or bring it down full court and don’t shoot nothing outside of 8-10ft range.

Now big men are taking it coast to coast, crossing cats up and shooting from long range

Cartwright, Manute Bol, Shremf, Divac, and a bit of other men ain’t starting in this era, yet alone getting burn

The neccessary skills for the game has change, so therefore for this style of play these guys are better than the guys before them

Martha

Jokic fat ass is getting triple doubles every month, but shrempf and divas ain’t getting burn?

The same divac that started against prime shaq?

Y’all don’t watch basketball and you don’t even have the decency to look sh*t up so you’re not 100 percent ignorant

fukk outta here. That doboy built nikka rebounds would be down a lot if he was defending stretch 4s and 5s

He’s was matched up with clunky trash non scorers who couldn’t leave the panted area

As if players today don't have handles >>>>>>>>> better than any other era ever.

Watch Clyde Drexler be one of the dominant guards of his era while having to look down while he dribbled and hardly being able to use his left. :lolbron:

Watch Tim Hardaway damn near invent the crossover in the 1990s as if people didn't even know what it was.

Defensive skills are >>>>>>> than the early eras too. Watch 1990s ball and 90% of teams don't even defend the pick-and-roll well consistently, don't know how to switch on screens, practice terrible help defense where they're constantly out of position and don't rotate well when someone leaves their man.

Ball movement and bball IQ is GOAT now too. Watch earlier ball, even "great" offensive teams like the Lakers are mostly standing around in the halfcourt. Sometimes it takes Magic 15-20 seconds just to set up a simple entry pass into Kareem. The Bulls had the GOAT coach of the era in Phil Jackson and all sorts of smart players centered around MJ and Pippen, yet the basic-ass triangle offense was treated like some sort of revolution in basketball.

Shooting, passing, ball-handling, bball IQ, offensive sets, defensive sets, and team defense are all GOAT compared to any other era in history.

Certain low-percentage one-on-one skills that have declined in use (post scoring and midrange shooting) have declined. They've declined specifically because those are low-percentage skills that aren't as important in today's game. When guys are working for 60% shots at the rim or 35-40% shots from three, then being able to hit 45% shots from midrange or 50% shots out of the post isn't as big anymore. Especially when, in the case of the post, better help defense makes it much more difficult to dominate from there. You can't just work on one guy for 10-15 seconds like Barkley and McHale used to.

but a good post player helps get open threes and cuts to the basket

:dwillhuh:
