North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
NYC need like a Kendrick Lamar type of rapper

Here's the problem with that. New York's foundation is based on a style that's ancient. Nas, Jay Z etc. have put a shadow over that foundation that nobody can really come out from under it. And the young rappers for the most part have to either invent their own style and be creative OR just be spoken word..... I mean battle rappers.

New York rap has become its own worst enemy. Stigmatized. A$ap Rocky and his people have tried to cultivate and be creative though. And the old heads are simply stuck in the past wondering what the fukk happened while waiting for some mythical rapper to come down from the heavens with a DJ Premier clone and take over the industry.

New York is basically sovereign satellite embassy for southern music and whatever is hot at the moment. And just to clarify.. New York has always been about playing what's hot at the moment on the radio. The only difference is now it mostly comes from various other parts of the country.

honestly, it's gon take a couple of things for new york to come back

1. new york havin' rappers that don't sound like they from the south
2. people willin' to accept new yorkers not soundin' like they from the south
3. the music has to be great!

new york ain't got an identity no more and they need one in order to set themselves apart with great music

Not gonna happen. They don't set trends. Hip Hop is to New York "almost" what go go is to DC. They have local trends but that shyt will never catch on.

The ONLY thing New York has left is timbs in the summer. :dead: and that about it.

What do you expect them to do?

Put Flatbush Zombies, Ka, Roc Marciano and Ratking features on their records?
Sure, why not? They both got their starts off of someone else giving them a shot and they are ambassadors of the city.

Another huge reason why NY radio specifically fell off... they stopped catering to dudes. Their playlist is dental hygenist music. They lost a whole generation of nikkas off of that bullshyt, and cornballs like Peter Rosenberg and Ebro can't get it back. Breakfast Club is cool but why sit through Power 105.1's awful playlist when I can just watch the interviews online

NY radio has to get back to championing NY music..... but established NY artists have to put on for the next generation.... and NY rappers have to stand their ground and have their own sound instead of jumping on the South's dikk. No disrespect to the South. But the South didn't come up rapping like NY.

NY Radio needs to just go back to embracing its own roots....its own artists.

LA & The South do that very well, having some of the newest hottest rappers/songs out now but NY seem to struggle with that because they're disconnected from the streets and don't care what 16-24 year olds are actually listening to. Maybe instead of catering to females all the time, they should cater to the youngins that actually supports they're homegrown talent that could push things forward into the forefront.

ASAP Mob were the perfect group to do that by shaking things up, bringing a newer energy of the current times of the city, but since they don't make traditional NY hip-hop, they don't get that respect. Pro Era brought back a sound that actually was traditional from a 90's sense, but its not radio friendly enough I guess. NY needs to embrace its own versatility and new found creativity with the new cats.

NY DJ's are just not catering to them. They rather cater to the mainstream and just make money off rappers/singers that became stars elsewhere without having to break em in. It makes them look greedy and extremely lazy, but thats politics for ya!

This thread been made a billion fukking times and everytime it's full of the same bullshyt reasons & thinly disguised hate.

NYC fell off because NYC producers fell off, period. The flame in hiphop has ALWAYS been with the region with the hottest beat makers. We ain't had a wave of dope producers since the Rocafella days.

I said she's a figurehead to NYC radio/culture.

To debate this there's no way you're from New York.

@ me or dap me, fukk nikka:sitdown:
Shes not a figurehead of anything breh...wtf has she done to advance hip hop as a culture or the radio

Niccas handing out titles to groupies who managed to finesse their way into sticking around

Explain to me what she has done for hip hop? Like, via the radio has she done anything like put on anyone of note? The biggest contribution she's ever made is being the b1tch in the i got a story to tell skit/song

And why the fucc would i need to @ or dap you hoe nicca? Who said i wanted to talk to your b1tch ass? :heh:

and this happens with younger DJs and MCs from NYC.

Can't talk about progress if the supposed tastemakers on radio are pushing 40 :snoop:
