Rap used to be for young people, it's not anymore

The average rapper used to come up as a teen. LL, Rakim, G Rap, etc...

That's not the case anymore. nikkas don't even start rapping until their late 20s, early 30s now.
thats more of a reason to do what R&B and Rock stations did and start "oldies" stations.

Its going to have to happen soon frankly.

And these old heads can find lanes in that venue because you can't tell me these mid-40s cats running major markets are doing much to progress the face of rap music.

The fact that youre comparing a radio personality to a DJ nobody can take you serious.

Her show has #1 listenership on Hot 97, and her show ranks consistently at #1 listenership on hip-hop radio in the nation. You dont get kept at the helm of fukking Hot 97 for 20 years just cause you jerked a few cocks.
In 2 years Angie will be 45. Whats gonna be your excuse then?

This shyt can't keep going.

NYC Black culture is a joke compared to the South..which is one of the main issues

see in the south where nikkaz aint deluded in this illusion of ":ahh: racism doesnt exist anymore" idea blacks are in the south are usually more supportive of artists in their area

And aside from the gang culture of LA they are always willing to support up n comers
NY hip hop's problem is NY itself
NYC doesnt have its own identity because it has taken in too many identities to begin with so its difficult for a large group of NYers to support an artist as a figurehead for NY collectively

Another problem is Ny's resistance to revolutionary concepts
I listen to alot of these up n comers in NY and its for the most part its just meh
Its either artists who are merely adopting and recreating music of da south without any tweaks
or its artists who merely make songs using flows and cadences that i couldve heard 20 years ago
Sometimes I jus be listening and jus be like

COTDAMM :damn: Can somebody anybody in dis damn city make revolutionary music..music that utilizes unique or new flows, new ideas, new ways to structure song, new topics, ANything :sadcam:

Thats why I be :scusthov: when i see these dumass nikkaz :blessed: for some :flabbynsick: new camron songs that sound outdated as fck or dem G unit :flabbynsick: remixes

I fck wit Asap doe..atleast he tryna do what im talm bout..he adopts some elements of houston in his vocabulary and cadence butmixes it up with some retro NY elements..and making it his own
I jus wish there were more NY artists to really change sht

But Im not worried bout this NY comeback sht..I appreciate and like alot of southern artists to complan :yeshrug:

This...

Anyone that is around any teenagers or high school students know that the "cool kids" don't even fukk with rap like that anymore...Being a rap fan in 2014 is like being a fan of hair metal bands back when grunge was taking over...

Although I'm in my mid 30's, I personally wish that young people would take over the culture again because when people do art for the love and not to pay a mortgage or make their alimony payments it usually is far more creative and thoughtful...

If Tribe or Outkast recorded their first albums under the pressure to pay for their kids college tuition it would have sounded exactly like whatever was moving on the top 40 at the time and not their own original creative vision..

These old n1ggas disgust me for the most part, but I understand its America and business has to be done...

This fukking thread again. :mindblown:.

Look, the bottom line with Hip Hop is more people can understand and relate to Southern & West Coast Hip Hop. that didn't matter so much when NY was clearly making better music, but now that the other coasts have developed their styles, production and flows in addition to the fact that NYC isn't flooding the market with quality music its a wrap.

NYC is an island (technically a few islands) but culturally we are an island. we have our own slang, culture everything. the south is a massive REIGON. they share many things culturally with each other. we are isolated, thats a blessing and a curse for us

Nope.

Even still, NYC artists would get more burn in their town if the DJs and MCs on radio were younger and represented what NYC is currently like.

Are dudes still impressed with Ebro takling about what he listens to out of 18 year olds?

We get it...you "love" hiphop...but you're just too old to even understand whats TRULY hot right now outside of you reading summaries your intern grabs for you
lol, please tell me what is 'hot' in these nyc streets that is not being played on radio?

A lot of you think NY is on some hating the younger generation or the south/other regions which isn't completely true. There are some people hating just to hate but that's a small number. Old school guys like myself hold artists to a higher standard because you had to actually have lyrical skill & content to be put on. Nowadays the bar has been so lowered cornballs who never would get a listen can get a buzz going which is crazy. And I don't care how good someone's production is because if you couldn't rap you were shown the door & that's how it should be. NY'ers from my generation grew up listening to skillful emcees & legends who were ahead of their time. Nowadays if you can bump the music in your car, or if females can dance to it in the clubs it gets played on the radio & clubs. Artists aren't trying to hone their craft & are just putting out that Molly music hoping it'll be a hit & NY jumped on that mainstream bandwagon because artists are making money. But doing that we lost our cultural soul & sound that defined us.

These nikkas consider that progression. "He's just unique"
