I think I realized partly why NYC rap fell off...

and ur way of thinking is why NY rap fell off and it aint never comin' back. The South doesn't discriminate against a particular type of music. Every region in the south got a distinct sound to them. Nikkas listen to them all.
And your point about "if you can bump music in your car..." does not make any sense. Music is made so you can bump to it. Dont forget about the demographic change in nY too :yeshrug:

What's wrong with holding artists to a higher standard? People care more about beats than what someone is saying & hip hop has taken a major hit for the worse. I stand by my comment because I LOVE real hip hop & don't wanna see it b*stardized & abused the way it is now. Nowadays people are so shook to say they aren't feeling artists

Don't talk to me about lyrical skill and content. These young dudes are DOING it out here.

The 90s rap music was some of the most outwardly violent and ridiculous shyt the world had ever seen at that point. Especially the mainstream stuff.

Now, of course you loved it. You grew up on it...but don't talk to me about "quality" when you've clearly got TALENTED ARTISTS WHO CAN RAP in the forefront. This isn't 2002. Snap music just isnt everywhere and you're lying if you really think artists aren't out here snapping on tracks.

...but this goes to prove my point:

What YOU need is an old school rap radio station...its about that time for that too.

You're older and theres nothing wrong with that, but other genres have evolved to adjust for this and rap hasn't.

There needs to be content promoted by people who are most likely to even enjoy it. That can't happen with 45 year olds screaming at 6PM.

With all due respect your opinion is off. Rap way more violent & graphic now than it ever has been. How old are you for real because this isn't even debatable? Of course you had violent rap from the 90's but now it seems everyone is talking about being a Don selling drugs & putting holes through people on a daily basis. Where is this quality of rap your talking about. Post some songs you think are quality & we'll take it from there

Yet Migos are the biggest bubbling artists out in about half the country and NY MCs instead of acknowledging that, Ebro spends half the interview trying to play the cool grand-dad talking about sexting and how he can't understand their lyrics. Dude even had the audacity to ask if THEY understood their own lyrics and those of their fellow peers.

fukk outta here. :camby:

For real Nap, Ebro isn't NY. He's from Cali & the people I know always thought he's wack & needs to play his position somewhere else. He needs to stay in the background.

not a higher standard. Just "YOUR" standard. major difference. You can't expect people to conform to your standard.

there are different ways to rap, different sub-subgenres. NY thought it was one way, but its the other way :heh:

the production comment is a decent argument, while the west and South have a plethora of nice new producers

the only ones from East i can think of are Aarabmuzik, Harry Fraud, and Erick Arc Elliot

Its the DJs and MCs themselves.

I look at a city like ATL and most of their radio personalities in rap music between three stations are AROUND mid to late 20s.

I look at NYC and the average age of every damn radio talent person is about 35. Thats for Power 105 and Hot 97.

Think about this. Most of Hot 97 has people who have been there SINCE THE fukkING EARLY 90s.

Put that in perspective.

NY can't "come back" because these old dudes are standing in ya'lls way by wanting something thats not coming back, and refusing to show LEGITIMATE love to newcomers.

These characters in NYC are more interested in being brands, than stewards of the music.

In ATL and maybe even Miami and LA, it seems like they LIKE the music their city makes. In NYC, they just seem to tolerate shyt they're really not feeling.

Are you from NYC?

You sound young & in denial. There's plenty of other people even outside of NY that'll tell you the same thing. The quality of music has taken a nose dive. There's no denying that. All music should be held to a high standard. It raises the bar for artists & makes them better. The old school saying: Iron sharpens iron.

Edit
Plus when you had great artists out at the same time it raised the level of music. Look at the 80's & 90's when hip hop took off. You had crazy artists out from all regions poppin & that made it competitive. That's what's missing in this age, great artists daring to be great. Kendrick Lamar was on the right track by calling out his peers & drawing that line in the sand

This...

Anyone that is around any teenagers or high school students know that the "cool kids" don't even fukk with rap like that anymore...Being a rap fan in 2014 is like being a fan of hair metal bands back when grunge was taking over...

Although I'm in my mid 30's, I personally wish that young people would take over the culture again because when people do art for the love and not to pay a mortgage or make their alimony payments it usually is far more creative and thoughtful...

If Tribe or Outkast recorded their first albums under the pressure to pay for their kids college tuition it would have sounded exactly like whatever was moving on the top 40 at the time and not their own original creative vision..

These old n1ggas disgust me for the most part, but I understand its America and business has to be done...
wtf are you talking about? This shyt is the furthest from the truth

What music do they fukk with then?

This ain't about respect though.

Funk Flex is 45
Cipha Sounds is 38
Angie is 43
Mr Cee is 47
Rosenberg is 34
Ebro is almost 40 I think

And thats not even all of Hot 97.

C'mon man

Why do you know their ages, though?

Like, what does that matter?
