Your parents being from Africa doesn't mean you've lived there to speak with any type of authority. I've lived in various countries in (Western) Africa for months at a time and for as much as submissiveness is associated with women, healthy modern African families (those with wealth anyway) run more like an equal partnership. However, admittedly, they do still mostly play lip service to that way of life, but they don't really operate that way. This is what I've seen with my own eyes.
