Blame the big AAA publishers who push games with automated climbing, platforming, flashing qtes for dumbing down games.
People complained about how rain made it difficult to climb in Botw, when in a 3p title they'd just slap some glowing icons on the wall and damn near automate it while you stuff your face with chips and soda.
Nintendo = mechanics, because they understand mastering something makes you want to replay it.
