Agree about this topic but dudes should realize hearing these stories about trainers making $130 an hour and shyt, that is really not the norm. I remember when I joined 24 Hour Fitness they were trying to push me to buy 3 training sessions for $100, so that comes out to like what, $33 an hour for the trainer? I get the idea is they give you a taste and try to keep you coming back for more, no homo, but how many people actually do?

I understand the idea is that they built up a reputation and/or clientele to get their private shyt popping, but it seems like it would be a struggle to get it going and make really good money off it from jump. You gotta put a lot of work into building up a client-base and finding people willing to pay big money like that.

I was about to get my cert, but I didn't have a CPR card, it's such a spectrum of how much people make though, there's the people who make thousands and the people who make 10/hr

My former personal trainer makes majority of his money by training.

He bought a lil office space and turned it into his training space plus he lives out of there and showers at fitness connection. He gets his meals from wherever like ihop or some restaurants since he doesn't have a kitchen.

He's always out training people all over the city plus sessions at his gym. You could pay by the class($25 for an hour 30min) or pay monthly (starting at $165).

He gets 20 people per class at 3 classes a day he could make close to a stack in one day after expenses (his gas and food).
and thats the american dream?

:Salute: this thread.

This is my current hustle/side job right now, living in the galleria area of houston.

I got certified with NCSF and honestly, no promotion but I would recommend that cert for anyone like me who didn't go to college for a kin or sports degree and isn't trying to spend half a G or more on study materials (to make up for not having the background in anatomy/endocrine physiology) plus the exam. Mine wasn't as expensive as NASM, ACE, etc.. yet its still recognized by most/all the major chain gyms (24hr, lifetime, la fitness, etc). You do still gotta study your ass off tho.

@Malta At this point, I'm thinking of joining a major chain gym just to build a client base, like what your friend started off doing at the college. I considered skipping that step altogether but there's just too many obstacles with that if you're just starting off. Like I have the height weight (6'2, 210lb) and build so i look the part (people always assume/ask if i played football) but its more so finding a gym that wouldn't try to charge your ass an arm/leg (some gyms be charging $500+/month for use) + paying for insurance/equipment/measuring tools/business cards, etc... and none of that would be bad per se if not for likely having to start off charging on the low end. So i've been eyeing the big chain gyms in and around downtown htown. The way most of these gyms are set up, you only get a third or so of whatever the clientele is being charged but its more so the networking, word of mouth, and following you build with them so that you can inevitably bounce and take them with you.

So it definitely takes time, but if you enjoy the gym life/working out, there's not many other side hustles with as many good benefits/perks once you hit your stride (money, networking, females, health... unless your roiding or something, etc)

It's good money, but you have to build your client base, I used charge $50. A session, have 3-4 client s a day....

I would do this right now as my main gig, but I ain't trying wake up be 30.and still doing this.....

You're only as good as your client base, and you're best marketing tool aside from being in decent shape is youth.....

Now physical therapy while personal training on the side is where it's at....
