I'm the most junior dev on my team and I feel useless sometimes :snoop: Legacy code is so hard to deal with. I'm almost never able to fix a defect without help.

2.5 years. I've done lots of difficult shyt there though :whew: I think I just feel pressure to be a rockstar because of the layoffs going on this quarter :noah:

lol man you aint going to know what the heck your doing unless you been somewhere 10+ years. With most gigs every project you are probably learning something new

Can somebody give me a rundown of Certs vs an IT degree I plan on getting both btw
I don't know what you want to know. You can do it with both and you can do it with either. If you go through school you can get an internship or a part time job with the school's help desk. With certs, you'll start making money sooner.

Can you give me the whole rundown on what exactly I would need to do to get a job in the I.T field and how long it would take me?
Where do you live? The time it takes to get a gig depends greatly on where you live.

I started out with Messer A+, building, staying on top of the OS's , and just learning as much as I can from experience. Once I got my A+ cert. I put my resume out there. 2 things u have to be open to low pay and bad hour contract work (I was in banking 8 yrs as an assistant manager and made decent money). My first job was contract work in a NOC making 18.00 an hour working overnight 12am to 12pm. I learned to capitalize on what I learned and got another contract somewhere making 50k. Wanted more and a perm role. Worked at a hospital for one yr doing help desk hoping for the perm call. Never got it. Just got this job at an investment bank, service desk 60 k perm role.

That's my journey. Learning all the os's currently to better troubleshoot (raspian, ubuntu, sierra, and win 7 and 10).

What did you do to get the new jobs. New certs, more education, ect?

I just stayed put at my job, learned a lot, and answered the interview questions thoroughly (which is how they gauged my experience ), and showed my personality. I've learned in IT, your personality is very key and most IT specialist lack that.

As far as education I just showed my flexibility on OS's

How do you feel you got calls for a 50k job with just A+. Was it your prior expirience in banking, a recruiter, do you know someone?

That's pretty much programming. I have to ask for help all the time. I don't really trip over it anymore.
