What advice do you have someone who wants to go to graduate school in order to enter the tech field (no experience/ career change). I been thinking of being a developer, what industry do you think is feasible. Is race even a big deal in the tech field. Are you in the Silicon Valley because the social dynamics may be different there.....

Think very carefully before you spend time and/or money for a grad degree. I'm in NYC but the racism in tech is all over.

What area do you reside in and what's your current industry?

Grad school isnt a biggie if he has an unrelated bachelors and it opens the door for for legit internships and qualifying to get into new grad development programs that many companies have.

That said i would not go back to school and invest money if you dont know exactly what you want to do.

Come to DC, I yet to faced any issues with racism in the job industry, probably because of the high concentration white collar black folks here.

Silicon Valley, biotech. Pay is okay but then work environment (from what I've heard) in tech seems more in tune with my personality and attitude

@bdizzle Do you know of any good sites to reach customers directly who need computer related issues resolved?

Craigslist is a crapshoot
Thumbtack is kinda iffy cause you gotta pay to even reply to a posting.

Has anyone obtained or is attempting to get an AWS cert?

I have decided to go for the aws solutions architect associate cert because I feel it can round me out more than just having these networking certs.

None of it is even complicated its really just memorizing a bunch of shyt so far

Going for it now breh...what have you been using to study?

acloud.guru

I bought the class off of udemy for $10 (sale is going on right now by the way). You can show cloud gurus the receipt and you can use their site (which i think adds some practice tests and has a better interface to me)

I'll prob use this class and the actual amazon white papers to take the test

If you just want to get a job then you don't have to go to Grad School. A cheaper alternative would be a bootcamp. You can use a free bootcamp like Freecodecamp. If you prefer videos you can use Treehouse or Udemy. If you can afford it; you should consider a Nanodegree from Udacity. They will refund 100% of your tuition if you don't get hired within 6 months of completing the program.

I'm going with Linux academy since I've got a 3 month trial. I figure that I can hammer out these next 6 weeks then be ready to sit for the exam no later than the end of may or early June
