MIS, usually leads to the Database Admin route. SQL/Java type stuff. It's simple, and you get paid fat.
Not sure if its better here or in the Arcadium but
I'm about to start college (Major in Computer Science, minor in Economics). Now the thing is, I'm not tryin to work a bullshyt job throughout college. Maybe I'm gettin ahead of myself but can a young nikka get certified and do some IT stuff instead of loading trucks or similar bullshyt
Anyway, IT heads feel free to spread knowledge in here.

if youre majoring in computer science im assuming youre doing programming? if you are i wouldn't even bother with certs. just focus on studying java, ruby and graduating. you'll be

No, it is not. I take your point, but that's like saying the thread about Vanessa Bryant giving Kobe back the ring is more relevant to the coliseum because more people who care about sports or Kobe post there. Higher Learning is open for any type of topic like this. Just like the java/programming thread that's stickied to the top. People just need to be willing to post there. Arcadium is not career-related like that.

For those looking to break into the field.
My advice:
Start out by acquiring a helpdesk job at a webhosting company (hostgator/cpanel..etc) They train you and you can gain experience from there... the pay starts at like $10.50/hr...you can move up quick.. get your A+ cert and you're good.
Once you're there for 2-3 years you can move into more of a network admin role.
That's what I did
I worked at Hostgator for 2 years as a lvl. 2 helpdesk tech, A+ certified, Network+ certified, now I'm an assistant network admin/IP telephony admin/desktop support tech for a retail electric provider.
Also my Undergrad major has absolutely NOTHING to do w/ IT..just goes to show Experience goes a long way in the IT field.
