You mean demo/test a OS in VM on the internet....

Just commandeer various operating systems and use virtualbox ,VMware workstation or get a spare computer and install vmware esxi

home labs are cool as fukk

Yeah I ended up just loading windows on my Mac using virtual box. Definitely helped me.

Im stuck in a small city in Texas and all the IT jobs are in DFW or Austin areas. I make $14 a hr but there's jobs in Dallas offering like $18-20 for basic help desk type shyt. Never commuted or just moved before :lupe:

is this advice still applicable? :jbhmm:
Yes, experience complimented by certs goes further in this industry because its a result driven field.

Get experience develop and refine your soft skills, and you can make big money.

I wont lie though if you want to advance you have to get a degree. And even for black techs youll probably either have to develop a reputation as a tech head and shoulders above everyone to get senior tech roles because they will promote asians and whites quicker than us, because most assume nlack techs are inferior. Tryning to get more serious about life and stop breazing through. I dont know which direction to go in. Was thinking aiming for Associate IT Director positions or Senior IT manager positions. Want to actually go get a cert at some point in the next year. Thinking maybe ITIL and something else.

Was also thinking of switching directions and going back into hacking and going into cyber security while its still bubbling.

Thing is im not trying to do any real work in my next position. Just delegating

If you're looking into high level IT positions, you should think about getting the PMP.

Principal Systems Support Specialist. Ive worked for CBS, T. Rowe Price now Im at ASU. Pulling 95. Hoping to jump into 110-120 range next move.

Gotcha. Yeah ITIL will probably trigger some keyword flags on your resume. If you are in a DevOps environment you can maybe fluff your resume to focus on that too. I've seen some IT leaders get Scrum Master certs if they operate as Delivery Leads too.

this too. PMP > any of them other certs just for the fact people will be blowing you up because you have it.

This and the CISSP. My brother has the CISSP. He works for a great company as an assistant security director but he's always getting offers from other companies.

If I knew then what I know now, there's no way in hell I would've spent 8 yrs in school to be a dentist.

Anyone in Houston wanna explain why it's such a shyt tech city compared to ATX, Dallas, and SA? I have recruiters in those three cities blowing up my inbox but the one city I wanna move to I only get a few messages here and there and it's all for Azure even though I work with AWS.

And wassup with these Indian recruiters telling me to "Do the needful"? fukk does that even mean bruh? :mjlol:
This is Big Oil country down here so the IT spots that are available are probably in that line of work. Even worst, the only two types of jobs with openings down here are Cloud and Security and I think that's becuz no one has the patience to learn Cloud and you have to be squeaky clean in security.

lol. I`m on the Product side of things, but I'm strongly considering a PMP just for job security. Like if times ever got hard I could take a Project or Program manager role and still at a high salary.
