Testout has their July 4th promo right now. Only $4 this month for what usually costs $80/mo. Has videos, lab simulations, + hundreds of practice questions for most of the current certs. Previous members use promo code July42019 to receive the discount. TestOut CE

Few questions for you. What is your current position? How many apps have you put out, and how many interviews so far? Any certs/a degree?

Keeping it vague

Senior Level Cyber Security Position.
Engineering degree
In forbes top 15 highest paid certs, I have the top 3 of the top 10. The other two certs I have are also highly projected and wanted.
My personal goal, is to be able to just save JOB #1 and live off job#2....40K a year part time would do it without over killing myself but it aint working :francis: .

0 interviews but I am applying to remote part time gigs but a lot them want you to be available 9-5. I don't trust corporate America and borderline paranoid so I am constantly trying to learn new skills. Seeing lots of people being let get at my previous job has left in being in constant larning mode.

Your goal is too narrow. Create a LLC based in Delaware. Offer consulting services. Find your own clients. You will make way more than the 40k you asked for. You will also have more job security since you're the CEO.

definitely, just need to get my skill sets up to do this. Still got more I want to learn and add to my credentials.

It seems no matter if its for the MCSA or RHCSA , Im gonna need to set up some virtual home labs, Aint no way in fukk im passing or simply retaining this info without labbing along side it, The course i'm using on Testout for the 'Install, Configure, Compute' is in depth but its 90% lectures, 7% Praactice Test, and 3% Labs. That's some bullshyt. Cant sit through 12-16 minute videos of this dude going down the rabbit hole of server 2016 installation, and Powershell CMDlets, and not be able to physically do shyt to follow along. Now its been made perfectly clear why I need a home lab vs just being something "nice to have". shyt is imperative.

but I need to save up for a powerful enough desktop. My shyt only boots in legacy, has a 1 core processor, 8GB of Ram, and refuses to play nice with VirtualBox etc., My PC is dogshyt for setting up virtual labs so Im looking to buy a new desktop in the next 3 to 4 weeks. Any suggestions?

Been in GA for almost a year, I believe 9 months now.
About to make that move and go back to the contracting game.
If you need a clearance I would suggest going cyber with the army civilian side, they need people and will bring anyone in and get your relatively trained up.

That said, being a civilian with the army after my previous experience working with other branches and agencies, cyber security with the army is a fukking joke and don't do it.

I'm have 3 advance stage interviews going on in the next week or 2. One in Vegas, Dallas, and Aurora Colorado.
Nothing better than when you have the skill and qualifications to say fukk this I"m going somewhere else and getting paid double.

For those of you just starting, the best advice I can give you long term wise is to look at the jobs no one wants to do, and study to fill those spots.
It is worth it.
Hate when intelligent posters do dumb shyt that get them banned :snoop:

I feel you about testout there's too much talking heads for the amount they charge for their services. I like the practice test and the labs they do have. You can try this resource until you get you a better computer the only thing is you have to have internet access to use it.
Self-paced Labs | Microsoft
You don't have to use their labs as they are written up, you can do your own thing and practice what you want. But you can't' learn to do installs they won't allow that. But other than that its cool, plus it is free

Testout does have alot of talking heads, but the worse is that dude R. Tracy. Dont get me wrong, He' was the best virtual instructor for my A+ and even then it was in small doses. But 90% of the videos for the Install and configure course for the server 2016 course has him during the talking and are an average of like 16 minutes. a piece.

Also, I just found out about the link you dropped yesterday and realized the limitations for installing shyt. Its cool and i appreciate it, but I'm just gonna resume my CCNA Routing and Switching studies since I retained a decent amount of it and already invested alot of time into it. After that I'll wrap up the year with Sec+ and ITIL.
This will also give me time to decide if I want to go Red Hat or Microsoft by January next year.

If you need virtual labs then get Linux Academy. Not only will you get exam prep courses, but you get a "playground" where you can spin up to 6 VM's at a time.

Ccna this September i'm even eyeing the CCNP T-Shoot. If i take the exam before feb, i would only need to take the 300-401 Encor to get the Enterprise cert. Anyone taking any Cisco exams this year? Or waiting until February?
