Yeah when that first tape with Kay Slay dropped, I thought he was the saviour.

Dude could spit, get introspective, be witty and had knocking beats.

I kinda feel signing to Just was a mistake. Just Blaze never really did enough for him. Atlantic were fukking Sai about but Just never did his all to push for a release. I get the vibe that Just is a bit passive aggressive and I think Sai needed someone stronger to fight his corner.

It's not really Just's fault.

The dude who signed Saigon, Kyambo "Hip-Hop" Joshua left the label and basically it was downhill from there. He no longer had support. It happens a lot like that for non mainstream artists when the person who believed in them leaves the label. Atlantic thought they were getting 50 cent when really they were getting a Nas/Common/Talib Kweli type artist and Saigon simply didn't want to play ball (understandably). Atlantic wanted him to do records with Pretty Ricky and he was like nah......so basically they shelved him. Obviously records like Pain In My Life (With Trey Songz) and Don't You Baby just weren't mainstream smashes in 07 when you have Plies doing Bust It Baby and Lupe dropping Superstar and shyt. Basically he had a perfect storm to fail.

In a weird way I think Saigon came out at the wrong time. Like had he dropped in 2013 or (Even 5 years earlier in like 2000) he would have had a successful career. These days labels are some what allowing rappers to be themselves again as long as they have a buzz. Look at J Cole and even Pusha T's albums. They're pretty much doing them. Saigon (& Papoose just got caught up in the wrong era, the ring tone era where it was all about making singles for hits)

Didn't he get in a barfight too, and flee on his mans back piggy-back style? :russ:

I might have just made that up, though :ehh:

Nope he kinda sucker punched prodigy and hopped on his bodyguards back as if he was yoshi and mario'd it out the club.

He failed bc just blaze couldn't really manage him well and Atlantic was a grave yard and I lost interest after how weak GSNT after like the decade build up. If he would have just releases in 2004-6 he would have had a chance.

"Pain In My Life" was my shyt. Around that time period you couldn't tell me Papoose and Saigon ain't have next. And this is coming from a nikka from Atlanta. Nacirema Dream dropped 6 yrs after the anticipated release date and GSNT 4 yrs smh

i honestly thought he stood a chance at becoming one of the best ever.
in those few years, i fielded for new from him, played his tapes constantly and then when Greatest Story Never Told infamy came out...i just felt ...

:shaq2:... think i played that album about 5 or 6 times all in.

ah well, least we had all those great mix tapes..basically everything up until Warning Shots 2 was great..GSNT was good i just rarely listen to it.

he should be 3-5 retail albums deep,a series of quality tapes and a permanent stake in the game

but hes mostly known for taking 8 years to drop an album, having 2 good tapes and a gang of other bullshyt. and a terrible 2nd album. shame, hes dropping again soon but i doubt it will be worthwhile. his first album had years of stashed records and it still wasnt that hot

I think alot of artists fukked up by being slaves to the Industry machine.

I mean think about how many wasted songs are out there......Imagine if Saigon and Papoose didn't get caught up with giving their music away for free just to get a dap from some bum on the streets.

They both had given away hundreds of songs and the mystique wore off. I always think what if either of those dudes just bagged up 15 hot songs and made an actual album. Things would be very different now. Well maybe........

You would think Love&Hip-Hop would below the standards for a guy that made Warning Shots and Greatest Story Never Told, but anything to sustain that lifestyle, right:ehh:

Does anyone remember the radio interview when they asked 50 Cent what his thoughts on Saigon where and were expecting him to say something positive but instead he kept it funky and just said "Saigon is a fukking bum"?

Saigon fought with Just Blaze publicly and tried to blame him and fight against him. They peaced it up but that was a big sign of things to come.

I actually hung out with Saigon a few years ago. Dude had a major drinking problem. I was talking to some chicks with Action Bronson and dude comes over alllll slloppy drunk and killed the whole vibe. Me, Bronson and Tommy Mas (Bronsons dj) all looked at each other like "this dude is lost".

Not sure if any of it has to do with his attitude and problems but yeah, there's that.
