Another reason why I feel like the video was a forced concept was because it just didn't connect like others I've seen.

There are some songs where once you see the video for it, you can tell right away that the artist had a vision for how the video would be. I don't get that from this Power Trip video (again, great song but just an ok video to go with it).

Examples of what I'm talking about...

:why:

Seriously, yal don't get it though. Here you are AGAIN talking shyt to someone who's a fan of Cole who just feels like he could have done much better with the visual for this video. EVEN after he went the morbid route with the video like he did, IT still could have been better than this half assed shyt that stans are eating up.

naw son, I do get it

you don't like the video, the end. what more is there to get? :laff:

you're getting mad at people for liking the video, and just typed up a midterm paper about it at the bottom of the last page. We understand fam, you DONT LIKE the video

at the end of the day, its not that serious. At this point its like you're attempting to force others to not like it or something. My posts were never about the video being good or bad, it was about YOU saying the video will hamper (your words) the song. Once we got past that, we were good.

You say this, then say this?

At this point its like you're attempting to force others to not like it or something. My posts were never about the video being good or bad, it was about YOU saying the video will hamper (your words) the song. Once we got past that, we were good.

:what:

I'm not attempting to change anybody's opinion on the video. I said that I felt like the video would hamper the potential success that the song could have had.

Me saying the word "hamper" wasn't me saying the video would cause the song to flop. That's not what I meant at all, what I meant was that had Cole knocked the video out like some of the videos I've posted, it could have taken the song to a higher high IMO. It's going to do well regardless, I'm just saying the execution of it all was wack IMO.

:what: How the hell does a video hinder a song's success. The video ain't shyt, hits get recognized from play on the radio and promotion. Matter of fact, most casual fans would like this video for it's peculiarity and how its "real-hip hop" and "not another video with money chains and cars".

Either way, the song isn't meant to be a top 25, top 30 single. It's more of a top 50, top 40 floating semi-hit. So, honestly, the song is good for what it's for but it's not going to be a mega-hit, it's not "Work Out".

:usure: I'm a big Cole fan and I thought the video ruined the vibe of the song. But it is with the current trend of videos tangentially relating to songs. I'm not for generic videos, but there's a certain ambiance to the song when you hear it that I feel the darker video takes away. Watching it made the song seem slower and drag out to me. I don't know :manny: But Miguel dying will definitely bring some attention. Too much time in that strip club though.

My thoughts exactly. And even if he wanted to go the darker route...it's not like he had to completely jump the shark like he did here.

But he's got the internet talking about it, so I guess it paid off.

 @ the first youtube comment on his song Dreams now being this...

power trip video make so much more sense now

Who actually watches videos more than once or twice? There are huge hits and I've never seen their videos more than a handful of times.

This video is interesting enough to make first-time listeners sit through the whole song and that's what matters.

again... CONSIDERING THE POETIC JUSTICE video is similar in style and its way of story-telling.. how come THAT gets a pass, yet this doesn't???

BTW.. the majority of people outside of the coli thus far love the video and many wanting to go listen to dreams BECAUSE of it. how is J. COLE losing from this at all?? got people everywhere talking.

Who are these majority of people you're talking about? I first heard about this video from my younger cousin in college yesterday telling me that they saw shyt on someone's laptop at the cafeteria and Cole was doing too much. As for Kendrick's Poetic Justice video, it didn't get stellar reviews either. It received mixed reviews as well. The only thing universal was that the main chick was bad.

I don't think you realize that videos are trivial. Nobody feels different or tunes out a song cuz the visuals don't match the music. You're acting like the video is make or break for the artist when it's just a promotional tool:whoa:

Look...

I listed videos that explain what I'm talking about. Poetic Justice wasn't one of them. I honestly only check that video out once before you mentioned it again.

But even with that video, Kendrick is going over a lot of people's heads. The imagery is queued with the words. If you don't pay attention you'll miss it.

For example:
Kendrick kicks off the song with a quick snippet from Sherane AKA Master Splinter's Daughter to prelude who he's talking about

After his last verse of that song the chorus comes on with the sample... "Anytime... you can get it you can get it you can get it", the image is him on top of his girl while the paramedics are about to put him in the back of the wagon.

It's a double meaning, meaning you can get killed at anytime but on the service he's just talking about the girl gettin' "it". There's NONE of that in Cole's video.
