JAMAICANS DEFINITELY FELT
A WAY ABOUT SEAN PAUL IN REAL TIME
WHEN HE BLEW UP

I remember people going through his whole family tree claiming he wasn't really black, yet was the mainstream rep for dancehall , especially since this (at least i consider) was the second wave of dancehall. Tbf, not sure if it was Americans, Jamaicans or jamaican-americans doing that though.

resentment towards others success seems to be a black american thing. :snoop:

so of course, let's project that onto other black groups. they must surely feel the same way.:snoop:
Are you fukking kidding me

There’s plenty of resentment, contempt, animosity and jealousy thrown at black Americans in General, by the diaspora

You can’t be serious :dahell:

He light-skinned and uptown. They hate his guts.
Yeah. I’ve heard people say the same about Damian Marley Jr, perpetuating he’s from the ghetto when he was raised upper class.

I remember there was an article about Usain Bolt and his gf moving into Sean Paul’s upmarket neighborhood… and either Sean or his gf made some very :mjpls: comments.

Despite being an Olympic gold medalist, they still saw him as beneath them.

Found it:
A neighbour of Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt has apologised to him after claiming he was keeping her up all night with raucous parties and loud music.
Jodi Stewart-Henriques, the wife of rapper Sean Paul said sorry on Facebook for calling the Olympic sprinter "horrible" and saying she “wish[ed] he would go back to where he came from”.

Ms Stewart-Henriques, who lives next door to Bolt in Norbrook, a high-end neighbourhood in Kingston, Jamaica, had taken to Facebook to vent her frustration at the athlete, labelling him “the ultimate party clown”.
“Between the bikes, loud, horrid music, parties and screams, I honestly wish he would go back to where he came from,” Ms Stewart-Henriques , a television and radio personality, wrote in the Facebook post which has now been removed.

“So unfair and disrespectful,” she added. “He’s a horrible neighbour. I cannot wait to move.”
However, she returned to Facebook days after posting the rant and claimed she had “allowed pent of frustration to get the better of [her]”.

Early life

Sean Paul Ryan Francis Henriques was born in Kingston on 9 January 1973. His mother Frances, a painter,[12][13] is of English and Chinese Jamaican descent.[14][15][16] His Portuguese paternal great-grandfather's Sephardic Jewish family emigrated from Portugal to Jamaica in the 17th century.[17] Paul’s father also has Afro-European ancestry.[18] Paul's father, Garth Henriques, was believed to be descended from Portuguese horse thieves who were fleeing from bounty hunters in a ship that sank in Jamaica.[19]

Paul was raised as a Catholic, although he also attended the Jewish private school Hillel Academy in Jamaica.[20][21] Several members of his family are swimmers. His grandfather was on the first Jamaican men's national water polo team.[22][23][24] His father also played water polo for the team in the 1960s, and competed in long-distance swimming, while Paul's mother was a butterfly swimmer.[25] When Paul was 15, his father was arrested on charges of manslaughter and sentenced to 15 years in prison; he was released for good behavior when Paul was 19.[17][26]

There is nothing wrong with their response to Bolt. How would you feel if you spent money to live in a tranquil area and someone brought their ratchet behaviour to it.

You saw nothing wrong with “he would go back to where he came from?” That was the only egregious thing she said. Everything else she said was valid up until that sentence.

Yeah there’s a lot of classism in Jamaican culture. I used to work with a J’can lady and she had nothing good to say about the “ghetto” Jamaicans. She even advised me to stay away from certain spots and subsets when visiting JA. So yeah, there’s tension between the social groups that outsiders don’t truly understand.
