Name a rap album from 2017 bigger than Kendrick's. So "DNA" nor "Humble" were huge singles this year? Kendrick's album isn't the most acclaimed?

Kendrick got the album but he's dropped the ball. When people talk about 50's run, Wayne's run, they shut everything down. You heard them all the time everywhere. Radio, streets, clubs, ALL THE DAMN TIME. Not just one album, they had hot features, concert appearances like Summer Jams, etc. They were EVERYWHERE. If you needed a hot record you went to them. THATS what a run looks like. Thats what being the hottest out means. Not just one album and you disappear for the rest of the year.

:martin:

Kendrick dropped the ball. How you supposed to be the hottest out and yet your features mean nothing? Your features dont go nowhere? Nobody checking for you after one hot single? (HUMBLE) What other single went top 10? Come on now

in 98, jay-z was right behind dmx
no one can tell me jay was bigger den X in 1998
especially with x dropping 2 albums in one year
but jay was definitely a major figure

same with 99, jay played a major part but hard to say he was number 1.

jay-z ran rap from sept 11-2001, until december 4, 2001

50 wasn't really a features artist because he stayed beefing with a lot of his peers. Even then, it wasn't like 50 was killing features. Another example is Kanye. Breh, didn't have a hold of the streets like that until he dropped "Can't Tell Me Nothin". Can he be denied 2004 because College Dropout wasn't exactly street certified.

Kendrick also had "DNA" which went #4.

That wasn't the point. Yeah, those Future tapes were huge. It doesn't take away from the fact, that "Where Ya At" featuring Drake was the biggest song of Future's career at that point and it doesn't change the fact that WATTBA was Future's biggest project at that point. Did I say he needed Drake? No. Drake was still instrumental in Future's success and run during that period though. To say he wasn't is a lie. Drake benefited Future far more than Future benefited him.

LOL at not seeing the forest for the trees. The thing about that list is, Jay was at or near the top for ALL those years(except '95 since RD hadn't dropped yet). No one else on that list can even come close to saying that.

'95-'96- Pac didn't run it alone. There was Biggie who had a stellar '95 as well. In '96, there was The Fugees. In both years, there was also Bone.

'97- Biggie passed, nut was on his way to having a huge '97. Puff came in after Biggie's death and dominated. Master P also had a big '97.

'98- X and Lauryn

'99- X, Jay, and Juve

'00- Nelly and Em

'01- Jay and Ja

'02- Eminem, Ja, and Nelly

'03- 50 Cent

'04- Kanye

'05- 50 Cent

'06- T.I.

'07- Wayne/Kanye

'08- Wayne

'09- arguably Jay

'10- Ross

'11- Drake/Ross

'12- Ross/2Chainz

'13- Drake/Jay

'14- Future

'15- Drake/Future

'16-

'17- Kendrick
Did you really leave 16 blank? No one ran a year like Drake did 16

LMAOOO @ 2002-2003 being Nelly

Bad News, In Da Club, Wanksta, etc. was already out in 2002...the whole summer of 2002 was 50 easily, let alone earlier that year with all the G-Unit mixtapes

And Em never "ran" those years...he always shared them with others...record sales wise he did smash the charts those years though

Charlamange (ugh) is also correct that while 98 and 99 were the years where the term "DMX the game" came from, Jay was HEAVY in rotation at that time

In fact I'd reason that 98-00 was the reason why so many people hated this nikkas guts

Nelly's "Hot In Herre" and "Dilemma" were bigger than anything 50 had out during that period.

Wanksta came out late summer, early fall 2002, and while it buzzed it didn't take off until 50 was on 106 and park and said it was about Ja Rule around October or November. In da Club didn't drop until January 2003. 50s dominance didn't occur until 03.

Nelly "hot in herre/dilemma", Em "eminem show" and clipse "Grinding/when was the last time" were dominating the radio and clubs.

kendrick definitely 2017 and none is coming close.

-Damn is the best selling album of 2017, in any genre (the billboard charts ended in november so the taylor swift album doesn't count)
-Damn is the most acclaimed album of 2017
- Humble is the 2nd best selling single of 2017
-Humble went #1
-DNA went #4
-Love is slowly ranking up as we speak, and it's about to top the urban and rhythmic radio. It also cracked not so long ago, with no video, no promo, only streaming demand. Interscope then decided to send the song to pop radio

humblke was already 4x platinum months ago

TDE are not requestiong the plaques for kendrick's album and songs...but many songs on the album are eligible for 3-4-5 x (or more) platinum and they're among the best selling songs this year
