Smart fans around our age started chanting Yes before that wrestlemania. I went to a house show on the road to wrestlemania and we all chanted yes before Vince chose to acknowlege it. We commented on it :hamster: before we even got to the beginning of the year. That monster pop he got when he joined Team WWE against Nexus is proof that dude was going to get over no matter what. The yes chant just took him to new levels.

Your desire for that to be true... isn't as strong as the fact that the fans like DANIEL BRYAN.

He's not an Austin, but he doesn't have to be... he's not living off the chant, the chant is living through him.

I'm not even sayin this to be a dikk but can someone please point out to me WHAT it is about Daniel Bryan that makes you think he would have gotten AS over without the chant?

In fact pretend Daniel Bryan were to cut a live promo TODAY only without the help of a yes chant. What would he do?

I'm serious. Pretend you took that card out of his deck. What's left that's unique to HIM?

Right he's definitely a talented dude. No doubts about it. I enjoy his matches the majority of the time no question.

But that's where it ends. Outside of that he's nothing. And I don't mean that as an insult. I mean literally he's a NOTHING. No personality, no character... just a dude with a beard. The underdog story can be applied to any small wrestler. They did the same with Mysterio. But now that the chase is over and he's holding the strap, what's left for this character?

Fact is if you remove the yes chant from Bryan right now he doesn't have another leg to stand on. That's his only play. And what's sad is that the chant itself doesn't even mean anything or say anything about him as a character. Everything HHH and Stephanie said in their promos the last couple of months is sadly 100% true.

Just this past week you had smark fans in the crowd chanting for Bad News Barret. Do you really think people give a fukk about this clown or are they just cheering blindly for this guy cause deep down they know he has NO shot of ever being something and so they think it amusing to get behind him. Per usual the fans proving HHH right.

I would love to identify with a piece of shyt scumbag heel brehs, its a good thing trips is back to in action blessin us :blessed:

Other than that, I honestly think Cena may turn heel in a bit because DB looks like he might be taking his spot as the top face. The thing is, he won't have to change his character at all, no rap Cena, just stay the same way but do shady shyt to keep DB from getting title shots and what not.

bruh, masses of ppl weren't foolin with the Rock until he became catch phrase king.

99% of every super star wrestler has a catch phrase ppl latch onto and it enhances their popularity.

And your Bryan example is the same reason why Cena had to stop rapping. That was al ppl liked him for, but that's not enough to carry a character as world champ. So they made him a normal guy. The same will happen to Bryan to a degree. YES will become a secondary thing like Cena's rapping did, although unlikeCena's rapping YES will never got away completely

Take the yes chant away from Daniel Bryan and tell me what else does he have that gets him over.

He has no personality and he has no gimmick. There is nothing that makes Daniel Bryan unique. He is a regular joe who admittedly said in plain english that even he doesn't believe he's at where he's at right now... and you could tell because each and every time he's in that ring being showered with yes chants he has the look of someone who's not entirely comfortable. He's said as much himself.

Bryan - through no fault of his own - was given a shortcut to the big stage because the fans put him there. And that's cool and all but you have to ask yourself WHAT did this guy really do to earn their love like that. Because at the end of the day he's still the same Daniel Bryan he was 2 years ago only now he has a chant.

So what changed.

Nothing.

I'll tell you what happened. A smark crowd felt robbed because their indie darling got squashed at Mania, and so in a sign of rebelliousness they got behind him the following night and began the yes chant. And then like sheep, other audiences followed because they thought it looked like fun. And so before you know it, the yes chant is the most over thing in the company... but it just so HAPPENS to be attached to Daniel Bryan. Thus giving people the illusion that he's a sort of people's champion.

But if you took that chant away, what else is there about that character to get behind?

Nothing.

From Daniel Bryan himself, "The yes chant isn't about anything."

Even he knows it.

Fans these days just want to get themselves over and chant.

or maybe cause he's a great wrestler :yeshrug:. get someone whos actually great in the ring in the main event then complain about why they are so over brehs. maybe we should stick to randy orton/batista/cena matches some more

When they gave him something to work with, he flourished though. The Kane thing, The AJ thing, Heel Bryan. When the gave him a character he did well with it. It seems you have a problem more with how he is booked than anything. And honestly like Benoit I dont think he needs much of a character. Look at the Shield. Theyre just guys who kick ass. Very little character if any even Ambrose. They all have personalities bit theyre gimmick is theyre a well oiled machine. Bryan's is hes a great wrestler that was held down. Thats pretty much been his story since they fired him and came back. But its been well proven that he isnt just a catchphrase. If he only becomes that catchphrase its because the WWE starts ramming it down your throat not because he actually believed it would be a "What?" Level catchphrase.

Yea but I bet you those guys didn't make their name ON the catchphrase. They had other things goin for them as well.

The Rock wasn't just a catchphrase people took to him because of the way he carried himself. The way this nikka used to walk down the aisle like his shyt don't stink. The way he beat nikkas wearin a 500 dollar shirt. The way he would refer to himself in the third person. The sunglasses. The eyebrow. The elbow. It was everything. He was a scumbag to the fullest that you wanted to hate but at the end of the day you knew he was the coolest muthafukkin alpha male in the WWF. And so when he eased up on the heel shyt and started gettin booked as a face the crowd already had a solid platform to get behind when it came to his character. He was a fully developed, fully realized superstar. The catchphrases were just one facet of his act of which he had many.

But that's all Daniel Bryan is right now. A catchphrase. A living, breathing, walking catchphrase. A vessel for the fans so that they could all chant their heads off and feel like they're apart of the show. Who cares if the chant doesn't mean anything? Who cares if the guy we're chanting for isn't good enough to be the world champion? All that matters is that we have a voice and that we could make a difference. If he sucks we'll just hype up the next guy!

Well I hope you're happy because you guys got exactly you wanted. Bryan got the strap. And I sure would like to know what the fukk they have planned for that character now that he isn't the underdog anymore. Because I gotta tell you folks I don't trust Daniel Bryan's ability to tell a story unless it's between 2 bells.

.

I get what ur saying BUT he started this "YES" catchphrase AFTER he was the champ for the first time. So the company was confident enough to give him the World Title on nothing more than his own merit. The "YES" stuff since then has pushed him to the next level for the WWE Title.

I'm telling you, his character will gradually change over the next several months.
