I don't get it. If he's not a heel, why pair him with a certified heel in Heyman? It's confusing.

...more likely than not. Know why? He can talk and probably stand to be more than just "I don't really give a fukk" status. ADR is a clear-cut heel, but no one gives a fukk when he's on the mic because he can't hold his own enough to make the crowd mad. Ziggler was a heel, but couldn't hold his own on the mic enough to piss people off...and he was also never able to be convincing enough with it.

Orton is actually a really good heel, but he's better when working through actions these days. JBL could piss people off with his in-ring tactics AND through verbal self-importance. Trips does the same. Too many heels rely on mouthpieces.

Don't know what it is. I want to blame the money. Everyone wants to stay over and sell merch, so they're trying to get heat while being over enough with the crowd to get cashed out for their work. That's why you end up with a bunch of "cool" heels that toe the line. Wyatt's selling t-shirts and sheep masks. Sandow's got t-shirts. Zeb/Swagger have the "We The People" shirt.

As far as folks saying that Lesnar is the no. 2 heel, that should tell you how bad it is because Brock's not necessarily the driving force behind him being heel. Brock is about Brock, but HEYMAN is who gets the crowd to react.

Won't totally agree because I see what you're saying. I'd say that one of the biggest things that keeps D-Bry over is the general respect people have for his work. They just like the guy because he works really hard, is endearing as a person, and folks watched him grow over a long, long period of time. WWE kick-started one of the greatest momentum swings ever with the :18 second loss. There should be more credit due there.

He has no personality and he has no gimmick. There is nothing that makes Daniel Bryan unique. He is a regular joe who admittedly said in plain english that even he doesn't believe he's at where he's at right now... and you could tell because each and every time he's in that ring being showered with yes chants he has the look of someone who's not entirely comfortable. He's said as much himself.

Bryan - through no fault of his own - was given a shortcut to the big stage because the fans put him there. And that's cool and all but you have to ask yourself WHAT did this guy really do to earn their love like that. Because at the end of the day he's still the same Daniel Bryan he was 2 years ago only now he has a chant.

So what changed.

Nothing.

I'll tell you what happened. A smark crowd felt robbed because their indie darling got squashed at Mania, and so in a sign of rebelliousness they got behind him the following night and began the yes chant. And then like sheep, other audiences followed because they thought it looked like fun. And so before you know it, the yes chant is the most over thing in the company... but it just so HAPPENS to be attached to Daniel Bryan. Thus giving people the illusion that he's a sort of people's champion.

But if you took that chant away, what else is there about that character to get behind?

Nothing.

Fans these days just want to get themselves over and chant.

Give WWE credit they pulled EVERY stop to get this guy over. Over the last year DB has went over EVERYONE clean. Then wins the title over Evolution after jumping off a hospital gurney

Why does that even matter? If you're as over as DBry is right now it doesn't matter how it started, what matters is how you can enhance it.

underwent therapy

accepted his abilities
oppressed by the authority
nearly gave up against the authority (wyatt)
perservered and overcame the authority

Daniel Bryan now and him even last year isn't the same

Paige winning the Divas title in her RAW debut
Sheamus winning the WWE title two months after his RAW debut and having a marquee match with Triple H for his 1st Wrestlemania
Brock Lesnar getting Hogan, Rock, Angle, Taker, WWE title, KOTR, RR win, Wrestlemania main event in a little over a year
etc.

All this anger about shortcuts so I hope u were mad about SCSA as a midcarder facing the 1A of the New Generation in a marquee match at WM and main eventing WM for the title against 1B of the New Generation the following year

Poor guy forgot how this all started the night after Mania 28...people just love Bryan...that's how the chant got over to begin with. People are jealous and in shock he's this over. Miz had more heat than Punk back then...he was definitely pretty over on these 2010 shows....he has the crowd pissed during the Edge segment pre Bragging Rights...that Summerslam promo got over big too

the last real heels in the business all came from TNA. Bobby Roode and Bully Ray actually attempted to make the crowd boo/hate them. As for WWE I would have to say the last heel for them is probably HHH but few months ago he was playing a tweener too.

One of the main reasons why the legit-Heel is missing is because most of the talent don't have a connection with their gimmick/characters because mostly every thing is created and given to them by writers. Its hard for the fans to react too something when the wrestlers themselves are emotionless or unconnected to their characters
